@owl_lady(Victoria Solovyeva): The long-eared owls are currently migrating for breeding. Yesterday we spent the entire day putting up the baskets on the trees. A little bit late, but the master has been working extra hard to finish them in time. Hopefully the owls decide to use them as nests and it will trigger their breeding instincts.
@.owl_lady(Victoria Solovyeva): today has been so hot I ditched all the work in the garden apart watering the plants and made some non-alcoholic sangria punch. If you want some just pour soda in the glass and then add the fruit mixture (it's in the fridge). There's no correct proportion, but please leave some for others too.
All while Zvezda was capable of soaking wet in her mini pool. Envious T_T

@.owl_lady(Victoria Solovyeva): Finally finished putting up the baskets for long-eared owls. 19 in total. Hopefully they actually decide to use them. That will depends on the amount of food they'll be able to find. If all the mice die in the spring's... springs, they'll try to find a more miceful place.

Just when I thought that the spring has arrived and it's only gonna get warmer from now on, the temperature dropped below zero again. We're getting buried in the snow, lol. The cat is watching the titmouses very carefully, but they're smarter than the ones in the city and won't get caught easily. Zvezda is visiting the house today.
@owl_lady(Victoria Solovyeva): A pair of mated Little Owls has lived with us for almost 13 years. We named them Buriyan and Metel. We tried every method, but they never produced offspring, which caused us to joke that Buriyan wants children very badly but Metel is a 'child-free' woman. Then Buriyan died out of old age and Metel got a new roommate — Athena.
After that, two years ago I brought Metel to a regular check-up, which confirmed my suspicions. Metel was a male. Both Metel and Buriyan were males. He had testicles, but in all of the previous x-rays we didn't notice them. This time, however, the check-up was done in his mating season and he has been in close proximity to an actual female Little Owl Athena, which caused his testis to enlarge and appear on the x-ray.
If anyone wanted to know how easy it is to identify the owl's sex. It is not.
