My solo was a lyrical style of dance, it was to the song Wicked Games by James Vincent. Throughout this dance I was trying to express one sided love, during the song James sings about how the world was on fire and nobody could save him but the person he loves, but it was such a wicked thing for him to love this person and everything that this person would do he would get effected by it but this person wouldn’t care. He also sings about how he wants to fell involve with this person, but in my opinion I don’t think the person wants to love him back. At the end of my solo the last lyric was “my world was on fire and nobody could save me but you” by this I believe he means that the only person who could save him from dying was his love, but this person wouldn’t save him. This really relates to my life because sometimes I think most of my relationships are one sided, where I give out more love than I receive which is obviously not the point of giving out love, but when you don’t get any back it will hurt a lot overtime. The first time ms Wrobleski played this song it hit me in that moment of what it reminded me of and how it hit me. This song also relates to my life when I had this boyfriend in grade 10 thinking he was my entire world, but turns out he didn’t even love me back and it was so one sided, and it basically broke me. This guy didn’t care for anything, but my body. I really thought he was the love of life. After realizing how horribly he had treated me I came to my senses and even through it was one of the hardest things I had to do in the moment, it was to better myself. This song really reminds me of my past which is kinda a good and bad thing, but it was such a good life lesson and this song reflects it great in my opinion. This was probably one of my biggest inspiration for choreography and my song choice to show my audience what I have been through in past relationships and some recent with friends, this is very important to me because I love expressing my emotions to people and I thought it would be perfect for my solo. I choose lyrical for my style of dance because of my song choice and the message I wanted to show, for the exam I wanted blue lighting to show depression and sad emotions. My costume I wore a long loose tank top to show how its just another layer but a big one in my life. Some challenges would be like where do I go from a certain move or wanting so many moves to be in but it wasn’t flowing right. Another challenge was our time period for our solo, I would have liked to put a lot more time into my solo to really think it out, instead of rushing my process. Overall I think that my solo was a success and it turned out great, but obviously could have been better, in my opinion I think I could have put a lot more emotion into my dance to send the message I wanted to, but for some reason I was very nervous. Hopefully in the future I will get more comfortable in front of crowds, like how I am in front of my peers. So I stopped taking dance outside of school after elementary, and only took dance throughout high school, I found that dance in high school is honestly so much better, not only ms Wrobleski, but having dance with people I actually want to dance with compared to being forced to dance with people. I lived dance every year I have taken it (4 years) and it will always be my favourite class, it has since grade 9. In dance we have built our own little family with having the same group over these 4 years, and when we work together it gets stronger every year. I haven grown not only as a person, but as a dancer thanks to ms Wrobleski, she has taught me some of the best advice and choreography. over the years I have become such a better choreographer and learned lot of new things, like leadership, working in groups, many different character traits, etc. I have come a long way from grade 9, like I didn’t even know how to choreographer my own dance, even in grade 10 I still had some difficulties, and usually i’m a leader for things like this but I found choreographing very challenging at the beginning. It wasn’t until end of grade 10 and banning of grade 11 where I became the leader and everyone would wait for me to choreograph anything. This was such a good skill for me because I was never really a follower and it was made me stronger and I like when people look up towards me. Overall this solo project was taught me many different lessons and I’m so thankful for dance and ms Wrobleski, it wouldn’t have the same experience without her.
