Two professional goals at the top of my list in 2020 - raise “Own Our Own, Fund I” focused on affordable housing in the first half of the year, and then build something substantial with the developer in this picture, Donahue Peebles II (@rdpeebles) . (Besides this being my favorite suit that I had to retire this year) this pic means a lot to me and is significant in my professional journey for a few reasons: 1. There’s about a billion dollars to the left of me. And the number alone is crazy, but the fact that we look like we could be related makes the number that much more impactful. Symbols matter. 2. I was on a mission to connect with Don after I shifted my professional focus to real estate. Since reading his books and learning his story, I had looked up to him as the uber example of the self-made entrepreneur, who did it his way 3. Finally, it was important to me that we connect for the first time over something substantive. This pic is from a real estate investment symposium that I conceptualized and executed for the NBA Players Association (@thenbpa ) while pursuing my Masters of Real Estate Development at Columbia. I invited Don to speak as the keynote. His story resonated with the players and his remarks were a highlight of the weekend. This sparked a legit mentorship and ultimately friendship. .
