Hello! I need some help with ripping assets from ln. I used noesis and nvidia's photoshop dds plugin, but i can't find a way to make the transparent parts look good. See, converting dds to png takes the alpha and deletes everything not covered by it. The problem is that the already transparent texture is put on a black bg, so the parts that should be transparent turn out gray. Please help!
Oooh that’s why that happens! I learned something today lol
Anyway, yeah, that’s a thing, and it sucks lol and if anyone knows a way to convert dds to png WITHOUT that happening let us know.
MEANWHILE, you just... gotta try and edit it yourself. When we were first trying it out @imaginal came up with a set of steps that usually works and made them into a Photoshop action. I don’t quite remember the specifics at this point but she can probably tell you or even give you a download of the action.
Sometimes I find going into Shadows/Highlights and adjusting the Shadows settings helps a lot too. The closer to white the item is, the better. In fact this is the only way I edit my transparent white items, since it works so well. The trouble comes if there are other colours on the same image, so sometimes you need to get a little creative and maybe try manually separating the layer.
Another thing you can try is a combination. After using Vee’s action, the layer is separated into 3. The middle layer is the one with all the gross gray stuff 99% of the time. You can use the Shadows/Highlights technique on that and it will improve results sometimes.
And rarely are the times you’re just screwed and need to try and just make the best of it lol This has included me manually adjusting options in Selective Colour, drawing underneath the gray parts, adjusting the Brightness/Contrast, manually erasing and redrawing parts, and sometimes a combination of it all.
Transparent items are the enemy. Especially the pink ones. Good luck have fun try not to punch your monitor.
