Ooh, I like this idea
Particularly because it gives me an opportunity to describe witches and warlocks as actually different types of magic rather than male/female
Logan the witch, who’s always been very aware of the connection of all things, the interconnected energy of beings and objects and the earth
He got super into biology because he wanted to understand that relationship from a scientific viewpoint
((His dad is also a witch, but Patton’s more content to just know there’s a connection and use it to heal both physical and psychological wounds
((His papa Emile isn’t a witch, but is a wizard, who studied their way to magical ability and supported Logan’s interest in the full theory
Logan is traveling from city to city researching different uses of witchcraft, wizardry, and sorcery when he hears of a magic user with a terrible reputation
They’re call them a warlock- a magic user who gets their abilities from a ‘deal with the devil’ or some other dark entity
Logan’s never heard of a warlock existing in the modern age, so he’s fascinated, of course
The stories agree on one thing: this magic user keeps conjuring shocking and terrifying images and creatures. Where the stories get muddled is whether they also make pleasant things too
Logan finally makes it to the town, and is greeted by a herd of centaurs wearing pants. Except some have them from the bottom of their torsos covering all the horse half, some are from above the flank down, and some are just from under the belly down.
It’s not terrible, just.... odd.
Logan finds the one who’d conjured them- a person named Remus. They have odd fashion sense, and keep bursting out odd ideas, but they don’t seem to be the depraved, evil entity the stories make him out to be
Through prodding and persistence, Logan learns that Remus gained their powers later in life- but they’re not a warlock
They lost their twin at a young age due to another’s lies, and so they pledged themself to a spirit of truth and deception named Janus
Remus is not a true warlock, but more of a paladin
But their bond of faith with the spirit requires them to conjure everything that occurs to them, to avoid the self-deception of restraint
Logan and Remus become friends as Logan researches how to remake their bond in a way that will allow them to exercise self-control
