when maggie was very young she learned about the importance of religion, and about having faith. she would attend church every sunday, or other events they had, she prayed with her parents hand in hand before every meal, and before going to sleep her father or mother would kneel beside the bed and pray. most of the time it consisted of how thankful she was for all that she has, the well being of her family and friends.
when her mother got sick she would pray for the lord to give her strength to get better, but no matter how many times she was on her knees, her mother still passed away. even when she went through her teenage rebellion phase after her death, she still continued to believe, just not as openly as before. the moment her father remarried and she now had a stepbrother, and eventually beth was born she was thankful that her father found happiness yet again.
by the time the outbreak happened and she lost most her family, and eventually the farm that she grew up on. maggie still kept believing, and praying because she still had her father and beth. even though they spent so many month struggling, killing walkers and eventually other survivors, they still made sure to take the time to thank the lord for all that they still have, for the people that are still in their life and unfortunately lost.
after losing her father in such a horrific manner, the home they fought so hard to protect, and as far as she knew her sister, her faith began to slowly die out. all the time they spent out there she wanted to believe her sister was alive, she hoped that she was. when the day came that she learned she was alive and then dead only a few hours later, when she saw her little sister’s lifeless body brought out to her was when she stopped believing.
maggie has always been a religious individual, but after losing so much she’s given up on hoping, or praying. the very sight of a bible makes her stomach ache because of what it means. she doesn’t want to fight the darkness around her anymore because she doesn’t see the point when it feels like there’s nothing left for her.
