- THIS MOTOR YOU CALL MY HEART
Kingston remembered everything Bryce told him that day at the infirmary, all the things about flowers and a date and doing things properly. It wasn’t that he hadn’t been capable, instead the simple fact that his years had been spent training or working on the job. His father didn’t let him entertain the idea of a relationship, and after a while he almost forgot about the prospect altogether. But now that same man had arranged a marriage born out of business. It was a common thing for those among their ranks; Kingston just expected if it ever came it would be with someone he felt neutral toward, perhaps even disdain. He didn’t feel anything close to that with Bryce. She was intelligent, great at her job, and beautiful by any standard. Even outside of such, her appearance hadn’t gone entirely unnoticed by the Benton heir.
The setting sun cast a pink glow over the desert when he knocked on Bryce’s door, clad in one of his many suits that made him look like the terrifying authority figure he’d trained to be. Those lessons never included romance though, and he never imagined he’d be where he was at that moment. He most certainly didn't think he'd feel... excitement? Or was it nerves? He didn't think so, then again those weren't in his repertoire. All he knew was that he enjoyed her company and there were far worse options.
He had the flowers, he wasn’t bleeding anymore, despite the slight hitch in his step, and he’d made a reservation at one of the finer restaurants in Battery City. King had checked all the boxes. Hopefully. It was good enough, right? It had to be, since there he was, knocking on her door. When she answered, he presented her with the flowers, “ Evenin’ Evans. ”
