backseat serenade // phoebe + alex
For better or worse, all Phoebe could think about was prom night, in the back of the limo with him. How it felt to be with him, how both of them were laughing, teasing, and inching nearer until they were nose-to-nose, then intertwined in a long series of kisses, only stopping to try and cover their antics once Jack and Saraya opened the door to get back in. They were more like a typical pair of prom goers than Phoebe had ever anticipated on being.
Alex was funny, effortlessly good-looking, witty, and wildly charming to boot. He had a big heart, and was infinitely creative – all of these things made him someone that Phoebe cherished, whether he knew the extent of it or not. Perhaps she hadn’t even been aware of just how much she truly liked him until prom night, playing 2 Truths, 1 Lie with booze together at the bar. The harsh reality of her feelings was rather alarming because of how much she enjoyed him, and how she tended to ruin worthwhile romantic relationships in short order. She couldn’t let herself hurt him like she had hurt others, or like he had been hurt before.
She messaged him to see if he was free, and then asked if he wanted to meet up somewhere they could be alone. Deciding she wanted to feel the breeze after being cooped up for a day and a half, she suggested they meet at a nearby park. Phoebe found a free bench and made herself comfortable, then tried keep her anxiety subdued. All she wanted was to do right by him, but not even she was sure if she even knew what that would mean.
