Rockin’ Around

Quinn let himself be pulled into Liam’s arm. He smiled as the kissed ended, leaning back in their embrace. “Aw, shucks,” he said, teasing Liam once more. They were often quite sappy with each other. Quinn glanced to Bailey, smiling fondly. “She’s like, aren’t these usually outside the house?” he commented, laughing.

Liam laughed at both Quinn’s reaction and the comment about Bailey. “She’s a silly puppy, isn’t she?” he laughed, crouching down to pet the confused animal’s head. She proceeded to lean into him, knocking him off balance. Liam laughed as he landed on the floor, shaking his head.

“It’s alright that you didn’t get it,” Quinn said, reaching over and squeezing Liam’s shoulder. It was easy to forget that Liam was from a different time, now that Quinn was so used to Liam in the present. Sometimes confusion still happened, it was rare now, but it still happened. Quinn only loved Liam more for his confused puppy dog face. “You’re cute when your confused, though,” he teased with a smirk at his fiancé.

Liam pouted for a few more moments before he finally looked up at Quinn. He loved that teasing smirk that his love wore sometimes. “You’re cute all the time,” he retorted, pulling him in for a kiss. Meanwhile, Bailey was examining the tree, clearly a bit confused by it.

Quinn was sure that Liam had seen her on TV before. “Oh,” he started, pausing from where he was about to hang an ornament, “She’s this woman who cooks on TV and sells products and things. She also went to jail at one point, but that’s not why I was comparing you to her,” he laughed, shrugging lightly.

Liam looked down and felt a bit embarrassed that he didn’t know who she was. It still happened sometime. He had gotten so good at pop culture references that he sometimes assimilated quite well into today’s society. It was almost as if he wasn’t from the 1940s. “Oh. That’s cool...”

Quinn nodded in agreement. They probably should have put the rug down first but it was alright. Maybe next year they would remember. Once Liam placed the rug down, Quinn thought it looked great too. “We’ve got this whole decorating thing down,” he smiled, impressed by their work. “You’re a regular Martha Stewart,” he teased Liam.

Liam furrowed his brow as he looked at Quinn. “Who’s Martha Stewart?” he asked, genuinely confused. He did watch some TV, but he managed to stay away from any mention of Martha Stewart. “I mean, she must be some decorating lady, but I don’t know who she is...”

“I think I got a little rug for under the tree,” Quinn remembered. He went back to the boxes and started sifting through them to get the one he needed. He had ordered a topper, as well. “Oh here,” Quinn said as he pulled the box with the rug out. “Classic red,” he informed Liam with a smile.

Liam turned to look at Quinn. “You probably should have said that before we decorated the tree,” he teased with a light chuckle, taking the rug and laying it out around the tree. “Still looks great.”

Quinn watched Liam hang the tinsel with a smile on his face. It was nice to see Liam enjoying himself so much. “I love you too,” he replied, before going back to hanging ornaments. Of course, Liam was taller so Quinn could only get the bottom and middle of the tree.

Liam was having a wonderful time, he filled the tree with ornaments and tinsel. It didn’t look as good as one of the samples ones they had at the store, but it looked homey and that was all that mattered.”It looks perfect.”

“There’s a box of tinsel,” Quinn said. He too had been putting a few ornaments here and there but stopped to get the box of tinsel. He had ordered everything he could find online, basically. Because he wanted them to have a really nice first Christmas in the house. When Liam hugged him, Quinn smiled and hugged back - not wanting to let Liam go. “You’re welcome, babe.” The decorations really weren’t a big deal to Quinn. Liam should feel happy in the home too and be able to put up whatever he wanted.

Liam found the box of tinsel and pulled out the silver stuff and slowly started draping it around the tree. He wasn’t the greatest at hanging tinsel, but he was trying. That was all he could do was try, and he was having so much fun doing it. Wasn’t that what this was all about? The hug felt nice, and he too didn’t want to let Quinn go. “I love you, babe.”

“No, if you wait until you’ve got all the ornaments put on, it’s so much more satisfying,” Quinn explained, knowing that was what he had always done. Then they could see all the ornaments lit up. At the mention of the nativity, Quinn shrugged. “Put it up. I don’t care.”

Liam nodded happily as he started putting ornaments on the tree. After three, he paused and turned to look at Quinn. “Tinsel or no?” he asked, unsure if Quinn bought tinsel or if he should forget about that and simply hang up the ornaments. At his words, Liam hugged Quinn tight. “Thank you.”

“We don’t have to use all of them,” Quinn explained, there was some things that were meant to be hung around the house and not for the tree, “But there’s back up and were going to need this stuff for years to come.” He was serious about spending his life with Liam. “What is it?” Quinn asked, when Liam mentioned something of his Grandfather’s. “I’m not religious but you don’t really have to be to celebrate Christmas. It’s always just been about family time and gifts when I was growing up.”

“You’re right,” he smiled, grabbing a package of blue and silver christmas ornaments and opening them. He loved the color blue; it was easily his favorite color. “We should plug in the tree first.” It was one of those fancy pre-lit ones where all they had to do was plug it in and it would turn on. His smile fell slightly. “It’s an old wooden nativity,” he explained. “It isn’t too big, but I’d like to put it up, if that’s okay.”

Quinn looked up from the couch at Liam’s questions. He had been on his phone after lugging up boxes of decorations from downstairs, waiting for Liam to finish pulling the branches apart. “We have everything. I overused my Amazon Prime,” Quinn confessed as he stood up and went over to the boxes. He had ordered tons of decorations, knowing they would need them for years to come and that they had none. Quinn hadn’t bothered with a tree when he lived alone because he always went to his parents for Christmas. “We can do whatever you want,” he offered, wanting their first Christmas in the house to be a proper good one.

Liam was so excited. He looked at the boxes of decorations. “There’s so many of them,” he gasped. “I mean, how are we going to fit all of them on the tree?” He was beyond excited. “You didn’t have to do this, Quinn.” He found some old old OLD stuff in the basement when he was cleaning it out, Liam was just afraid to put some of it out. “I found something downstairs. It was my grandpa’s that I wanted to put up for Christmas, but I know that you’re not... religious.”

Liam was excited the day that Quinn brought home the huge artificial tree in an even bigger box. While it wasn’t the Christmas tree of his past, it was fun and easy putting it together. Liam probably spent half an hour ‘fluffing’ the tree to make it look perfect while Bailey looked at him in confusion. The young time traveler turned to look at Quinn. “What kind of ornaments do we have?” Pause. “Can we string together popcorn garland?”

“Okay,” Quinn agreed when he got into the bed. He wrapped his arms around Liam, knowing it was only fair that they switch positions. He snuggled up to Liam and smiled softly, kissing Liam’s forehead.

Quinn kissed Liam back happily. “Okay, if you say so,” he said, letting Liam help him off the couch. “You’re not bony, Liam. You’re sexy,” Quinn insisted as they climbed the stairs together. Liam was beautiful to him, always.

Liam shrugged and flopped down onto the bed as soon as they got there. He kicked off his shoes and crawled under the covers, waiting for Quinn to do the same before cuddling into his arms. “My turn,” he laughed, crinkling his nose as he watched Quinn for a few moments.

“It’s able to be fixed and organized,” Quinn said encouragingly. He settled back against Liam with a small smile on his lips. He knew Liam would never actually push him away. “Love you,” Quinn said after a moment, “With that being said, do you mind being my pillow for a few hours because I could use a nap?” he asked, grinning.

Liam smiled at him, pulling him in for a little kiss. “Maybe we should move to the bed if you want a real pillow,” he laughed. “I’m a little bony to be a pillow.” The man slowly helped Quinn up. “I could use a nap too.”

Quinn tried to duck Liam’s swing but wasn’t quite there so he laughed at him attempts. “It’s not that bad but it’s bad,” Quinn insisted. He might keep his comments to himself now, because he didn’t want to be kicked out of Liam’s lap and his warm arms.

Liam glared at him and attempted to push him away (but he wasn’t truly trying), giving up a few moments later and settling his arms back around Quinn. “It probably is pretty bad...”

“I know we probably don’t need her that often but Bailey sheds and we have to take into account that we might get busier as we get closer to the wedding next year,” Quinn said, “I can talk to her and see when she’s free.” It would be nice to have that help around the house. “Maybe she can help you with the closet of yours,” he teased.

Liam nodded in response to his words. “Hey!” He playfully hit Quinn on the arm. “You’re not funny. My closet isn’t all that bad,” he laughed. Yes, it really was. He had a wash basket full of the clothes he wore most often. It didn’t even make it into his closet.

“It’ll just make our lives a little easier,” Quinn went on, before realizing that he didn’t have to convince Liam. “Good, I’ll call her tomorrow sometime to see if she has a free spot for us. I think three times a week would be good, maybe Monday’s Wednesdays and Fridays.”

Liam nodded happily, still a bit groggy. “If we need her that often,” he stated slowly. “What about Mondays and Thursdays? If she’s free.” They weren’t messy people. Liam did a pretty good job keeping everything fairly tidy, except for his closet. His closet was a disaster zone.
