nothing good happens past 2am ;; emily&caleb
As the night dragged on people began to slowly exit the bar, taking their mistakes and their future hangovers with them. Emily was glad she was on the opposite side, and while she had been sipping on a beer, she wasn’t anywhere as intoxicated as some of the people she watched stumble into their cabs outside. Emily was young, but she had gone through a definite party face the first few months of her twenty first birthday. Now that she was older, she didn’t find the fascination in drinking all the time. Plus, killing demons was something that usually demanded sobriety.
Emily had been a hunter for most of her life, from the time she could hold a knife, she was holding in the direction of someone to kill. She used to watch her father when she was younger, taking on bad guys, she always knew that it was a family business she definitely wanted to be a part of. It wasn’t until she was eighteen that she was allowed to join the fun. She took to it like a moth a flame, becoming one of the most powerful hunters in her father’s group. There weren’t very many of them left, they had either quit or were killed, but Emily and her father were still going strong. Emily didn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Especially not for some guy. Emily strongly believed that there were creatures in the world that needed to be stopped. She had seen too many dead bodies, too many drained of blood to be able to see the good in anyone.
Even if that person was Caleb. The thought of him made her grit her teeth. The thought of him made her burn with a fire that she forgot was there. She wasn’t heartbroken, no, she was angry. Emily did anger better than anyone else. She harnessed it into her work, taking her aggression out on those people who deserved it. Like Caleb. She would kill him someday, if she was lucky. She knew how many people he was capable of hurting. She wouldn’t let that happen.
As closing time approached Emily spotted two people in the back corner of the bar who hadn’t moved and didn’t look like they were planning on going anywhere. Everyone else had emptied and the bar was ready to be closed down. In maybe a half an hour, Emily wold be on her way home. These people needed to get out. “Excuse me!” Emily cleared her throat as she walked over to the table where she was sitting, “You’re going to have to leave, the bar is closing in just a few minutes.” It was when she got to the table that she realized who she was talking to. Her arms crossed over her chest and she sighed, “You.” She stared at him for a second before looking across the table, “Who’s this?” Emily paused for a second, “You, get out.” She turned back to Caleb, “But you can stay, I think we need to talk.” Emily’s lips turned up in a smirk, her hand resting on the handle of her knife. It was snug under her jeans, hooked onto the band and ready to use at any time. Now was that time.
