birthday dinners || jamiera
Keira was looking forward to going over to James’. She was also thankful that he suggested going to his place because she was not in the mood for going out. Birthdays were never something she celebrated. There was too much attatched to it and now it was just a reminder of the face she was getting older, not something she needed. So, a night in with her friend was what she needed. She kept it causal with some mom jeans a white body suit and just some light make up. Although James told her not to bring anything, she couldn’t not do that so she stopped off at the store and picked up a bottle of red wine for them before driving to his place. Keira ran her hand through her hair and looked in her mirror. Why did she feel nervous? It was just James, right? Right. She grabbed the wine and headed to his door, knocking and waiting on him to answer.

Jamie was having a bit of a lie-in. As much as Meridium would allow anyway. Soon enough there was sun streaming in through the porthole, and he opened his eyes reluctantly, stretching, and climbing slowly out of bed.
He dressed without any real intent - a black vest and a pair of shorts - stopping to eat a bit of mango (what harm could it do now, after all; his attunement had already been stolen), then headed for the door wondering what had taken Teak out so early. He supposed he’d find his brother sooner or later and made his way out onto the deck of the Leander, sighing contentedly as the sunshine warmed him and the island breeze brushed past. It was another beautiful day, and even though he was still processing the loss of his earth attunement, the magic he’d only just learned how to efficiently command, he had a lot to be thankful for. Glancing down at his scarred sandaled feet and his one spoilt shin, Jamie gave a little snort. Well. Maybe he didn’t need to be thankful for jellyfish stings. You had to draw a line somewhere, after all. Even Joaquin would agree with that.
Heading down to the beach though, Jamie noticed a rather good-looking bloke not quite skulking, but definitely examining the ship, perhaps looking for a nonchalant way to come aboard; and Jamie smiled, happy to be playing welcoming committee again, knowing Tomas and Iyaz would forgive his lateness this morning; and he called out, “Oi! Are you looking for someone, mate? Maybe I can help.”

“Hey man, you gotta sec?” Ed stepped towards his friend, turning down the booming music from the record player as he did so. It was hard to think sometimes when it was this loud, and Ed didn’t want to cloud his friend’s head even more. In the months of them working together Ed had never seen is friend so... off. “I’m kinda surprised you came in at all this week, you sure you don’t need a break?”

“Alrighty, item number seventy-two,” Logan’s finger trailed down the crumpled-up piece of paper, landing on a now smudged item next to the number. After months of carrying around the same list, it was near unrecognisable now. He leant forward, squinting, “uh… it either says, let a peeling or, oh,” Logan glanced up at James nervously, pulling a face that could only be described as fear, “get a piercing. It says I have to get a piercing.”
Un-Potter Like - Albus & James
Albus banged a had on his brother’s door, waiting in the corridor for an answer. It was almost like a bed check what he was doing, knocking about to make sure James wasn’t off being a Potter; because really, that headlong into danger things was genetic, right down to the bone. He gave a huff and kicked at the door with a boot, almost baring his teeth. He didn’t want to be doing things this way. He honestly wanted to be out in Oxford, chatting up someone or dancing or just being in a late night space and relaxing.
But he was being good. He was trying to be responsible, even if all he really wanted to do was give in and frolic. And he also didn’t really believe that his brother wouldn’t be off doing something insane. So he was here. Making sure everyone was OK.
So maybe those lessons from the muggles were getting to him.
“Brother mine, open the fucking door or I will blast this thing off it’s hinges!” he snapped, crossing his arms tighter about himself and scowling at the handle.

Gideon Prewett’s flat, London
Most days Gideon was uncertain of his work’s significance in the war but then there were the days when he was sure that what he was doing was actually making a difference. If only he knew which side was the one benefitting from it.
Most of his work at the ministry really wasn’t as glamorous and exciting as some would probably think when they heard that he was working in the Department of Mysteries. They probably thought of secret artifacts and creatures, big laboratories and constant, exciting breakthroughs. And sure, they did have the laboratories and every now and then they did have a breakthrough, but if anyone knew how much of his time Gideon actually spent at his desk over books and scribbling runic equations into his notebooks they’d probably be disappointed.
When he’d first agreed to give regular reports on his work to the Order, they had probably expected a little more as well but as it was, he mostly gave tedious updates on spell projects that sometimes took months to develop and of which most never left the drafting table. It was frustrating, to have so little to contribute most of the time, but this was the nature of magic experimentation; new spells weren’t developed in a day and most of it really was just a lot of trial and error.
Today however he did have something to report, a breakthrough indeed and one that made him more uneasy than anything he’d worked on before. He was glad he was at least giving his report to James Potter. While he was still terribly young, he’d given Gideon the impression of being brighter than others. He had a feeling that James understood enough of the subject matter to follow most of Gid’s explanations without issue.
When he opened the door, he didn’t even bother with pleasantries. This was far too important.
“Good that you’re here. We have a bit of an issue, I believe.”
a bit of levity | remus & james | christmas eve
The Potters’ house was a regular fixture of Remus’s Christmas holiday breaks. Typically it was earlier on in the break that he’d arrive, along with Peter, usually only for a couple days; mini camping trips were taken, extensive blanket forts erected in the living room. It was Marauder tradition. This year it really only worked for Remus and Peter to come for Christmas Eve, but Remus was making the most of it.
The grin on his face, the delightful spring in his step; all of it was apparent, and all of it stemmed from the fact that his surprise talk with Emma Vanity had gone the way it did. Not that he’d been wallowing in complete misery the first half of break; Emma had previously assured him she wouldn’t out him without warning him first, and then the whole, well. Business of finding out secondhand about James and Lily gave him a whole other thing to fixate on.
He was far too happy to be mad about it at the moment, but he could certainly be snarky.
“Knock knock.” Remus called out, standing in the doorway of James’s bedroom, an impressively quirked eyebrow and half a smirk on his face as he stared down at his friend; currently sat on the floor, apparently wrapping some last minute gifts. Remus had arrived a little bit earlier, but James had apparently known to give him and Sirius time to themselves; or he just hadn’t heard the arrival from his room. “I have a present for you, but first? You owe me a teeny explanation for some very interesting gossip I was told by Emma Vanity before I got off the train.”
