crisis on paradise // hailey & eli
her feet seemed slow in comparison with the tears running down her face. hailey had given up and stopped trying to wipe them, letting them blur her way on the street. she didn’t know where she was going, she just wanted to go away - as far away from eli and from the feelings she kept inside her for so long. hailey knew she was probably overreacting, but seeing eli involved with drugs triggered painful memories. she remembered aiden, those red eyes of him, telling her that she had nothing to worry about. and then she remembered aiden’s mother shakily telling her on the phone that aiden died of overdose. it was so much more than what she could take. and right now, she was completely frightened. what would she do if the same fate was to happen to eli? how could she be sane again?
it was supposed to be a fun evening. she brought chips and video games so she could have quality time with her best friend. knocking wasn’t something needed since she was pretty much part of eli’s family. his mother let her in and she just barged in eli’s room to see him dealing with weed. at first, hailey just blinked, trying not to believe what her eyes were seeing. but it was real – she could see by the way he reacted to her presence. anger was the first thing she felt. “you know what? you’re an asshole” was what she said while throwing the bags of chips on his face. “don’t come after me” she warned, and she meant that. hailey didn’t want to be followed because eli would repeat the same lies she heard from her late boyfriend. so she ran, trying to be as fast as her tears.
