old friends {jesse & laurel}
This wasn’t a situation Jesse had ever pictured coming around for him. He wasn’t sure what he had done to get on Tyche’s bad side, but it must have been something spectacular to earn both the life he’d already had and the continued misfortunes. It wasn’t even that he had a plan to tell Chase about his real name, but he knew for sure that if he did it wouldn’t involve Laurel Moreno showing up after more than three years and risking everything he’d built up for himself.
It was hard to hang around a cabin without looking suspicious, but he didn’t want to go to the door and run into the wrong child of Athena. Settling for sitting on the grass beside the cabin with his book, he hoped people reading beside the cabin was a common enough sight for no one to give him a second glance. He raised his head so quickly when the door opened that he was glad the only witness to it was the very person he was waiting for. Scrambling to his feet, book forgotten, he stepped towards the cabin. “Laurel, we really have to talk.”
