She had woken up disoriented, her mind taking several minutes to drag itself out of a drug induced slumber. The world had somehow seemed out of proportion when she managed to open her eyes, nothing quite sitting right in her mind. With a groan she sat up, dragging her legs to the edge of the bed, letting them hang down. All at once she felt a terrible throbbing sensation rushing across the left side of her face, and a noise of discomfort escaped her throat. Gingerly she touched her cheek, only to discover a cotton gauze held down with tape covering nearly half of her face, including her eye. That explained why nothing quite looked right. It felt dry to her probing fingers. Recently changed, Nyena thought blankly.
As she sat there, the memories of the two days before rolled over her like waves, crashing through her confused state and dragging her back to the present. Her head darted up, quickly swiveling around the room to take in all the bodies that surrounded her. Pyre, Thane, Augustus, Raven; they were all there. Cypress stood over Thane’s unconscious form, tending to one of the IVs going into the man. Nyena gave him a brief nod in acknowledgment. A vague memory of arriving back on the Concord had come back to her. Nerves shot and over exhausted, Cypress had attempted to tend to her wound and in reply she curtly told him, “Just fucking sedate me.”
Already irritated by the bandage covering her face, she began to gently peel off the tape, lifting the gauze off to reveal the large gash beneath. Her bones ached as she stood, turning towards the small mirror than hung on the wall. It was difficult to look at. Undoubtably it would leave a scar that would mar her face, possibly for good. The edges were angry and red, held together by what must have been over thirty stitches. However Nyena was more concerned with her synthetic eye, which lacked its familiar glow. “Fucking fantastic”, she muttered. She had no sight in her left eye.
At the sound of a quite groan echoing through the quite room, Nyena turned to see Raven’s body stirring. Slowly she made her way over to the doctors bedside, collapsing in a chair that had already been pulled along side it, most likely by another vigilant crew member. At first she said nothing, watching Raven pull herself out of the drugged induced sleep Nyena had just fought off. When their eyes locked, Nyena released the breathe she didn’t realize she had been holding.
“You,” Nyena paused, her eyes roaming over Raven’s pale form, “Look like shit.” The mechanic had never been one for much tact, even when in her best moods
