spoonful of apologies → winnie
With her laptop on the verge of dying, Maisie closed it and reached across her bed to connect the charger for whenever she was able to get back to it. It took her a moment to roll herself out of the soft bed thanks to the overly fluffy comforter that she had bought. She liked sleeping on a cloud even if it made it difficult to wake up every morning. With her socked feet planted firmly on the ground, she stood up and headed over to the chair in the corner of the room to grab the grey cardigan draped carelessly over the back of it.
Maisie left the room while slipping the fabric over her shoulders, trying hard not to let the nerves in the pit of her stomach overwhelm her too much. It was impossible not to think about the way Winnie was reacting to them being around each other again, but Maisie wasn’t surprised. She’d always felt guilty and like a horrible friend for just abandoning everyone, especially Winnie. They’d gotten so close and Maisie just let it all go because she couldn’t say no to Dylan. Now was the time to make up for it all, but she wasn’t sure if she wanted to tell Winnie the real reason she lost touch.
In the kitchen, the freezer became her destination and the search for ice cream began. It was shoved in the back behind a bunch of other stuff, but thankfully still there. She’d been a little worried that there wouldn’t be any left. With the two small pints in her arms, she grabbed two spoons and headed back out of the kitchen to get to the little table by the door that she’d brought from out of storage. Nearly everything Maisie brought to the apartment that belonged to her, she got out of the divorce. Along with a few other things.
With her phone and apartment key in the pocket of her cardigan, she pulled open the door and slipped into the hallway. Maisie wasn’t sure where Kara was or even any of the others, but at least she knew Winnie was home. The walk to the door was a slow one as she tried to think through what she wanted to say to Winnie. She needed to fix things, Maisie couldn’t let things go on the way they were and she wanted her best friend back. Finally stopping at the door, she knocked as best as she could.
“Winnie! I’ve got all the ice cream to make us sick to our stomachs!” She exclaimed through the door.
