welcome to the daycare » lilo & isaiah
It was the middle of the day, the sun was high in the sky and the air was fresh. Not too cold, a normal, end of winter day. Isaiah was heading to the forest alone, hoping to spend a little bit of time by himself. He had planned to shift, and spend his day as a wolf, and then would go back later to Bellamy’s apartment at the sunset. To him, it was an absolutely perfect plan. He would not be bothering anyone, in the forest. He rarely met anyone there anyway, and when he did, people were surprisingly nice to him. Today though, it seemed to him that things would happen slightly differently. As he walked into the woods, he heard cries, human cries. A child’s cries. It was definitely not something he heard often here, and Isaiah looked everywhere, worried that the child could be endangered – though the forest was not exactly dangerous in his opinion. Running around, it was not very long until he found the small boy sitting on a tree trunk, sobbing. Reluctantly, Isaiah stepped closer slowly, trying not to scare him. “Hey…You okay?” He asked softly, tucking his hands in his pockets. The small boy looked at him. He was probably not older than four years-old, and Isaiah turned his head, wondering why he was alone. “Where are your parents?” He questioned him again, frowning lightly. The little boy shrugged, and gave him a shy look.
“They’re at work.” He said, pausing for a few seconds. “I was at the Sumner Sprouts.” He added, and Isaiah wondered for a few seconds what the little boy was talking about before remembering what the Sumner Sprouts was. Obviously, the kid had escaped from the daycare! “So, tell me. Why did you get out?” He asked, smiling nicely. Isaiah was shy, but with kids, it was slightly different. The little boy looked at him, and then looked down sadly. “If I tell you, you’ll laugh.” Isaiah nodded and sat down next to the boy. “I promise I won’t. If you want, it can be a secret!” He added. The little boy smiled, and looked at the older wolf. “My daddy and my mommy go into the woods sometimes when they turn into wolf. I wanted to see what it’s like.” Isaiah’s frown softened. So the kid’s parents were wolves too? “Well, you know, it’s normal that you want to know… When I was a kid I wanted to know too… You should ask your parents to bring you with them.” He said, smiling to the child. He looked at the path leading to the end of the forest and sighed, looking at the boy again. “But now, I think we should go back to your daycare. The people there are probably worried.”
The small boy protested, but finally agreed, and grabbed Isaiah’s hand, who was surprised by the child’s act, but let him do it, feeling a little bit uncomfortable. They walked for long minutes, and the werewolf listened to the little boy as he chatted about anything, happy to have someone who listened to him. When they finally arrived to the daycare, Isaiah opened the building’s door, letting the child in before entering after him. He searched for a caretaker and finally saw a man. “Uh, excuse me…I was in the forest and I found this child, he was lost and told me he was from your daycare…”
