Tears For The Big Bad Wolf
It was late at night, far too late for anything good to happen. The people bustled this way and that, hurrying to get hoe as the snow clung to the ground. A small family pushed past the taller male, a little child still pointing behind them. "But Momma! I really did see it! There was the big bad wolf back there! He was hurt!!" The child complained more as he mother walked home with them.
Kyuhyun was panicking. Lu should have been back hours ago, hours and hours ago, where on earth could he be? Giving up on just waiting, he decided to call the police to report a missing person, but what if Lu wasn't in human form? So he had headed out. Walking aimlessly, it was only when he heard the words of the small child that he finally felt his heart break in both relief and fear. hurt.... Moving back to where the boy had pointed, he bent down and called in a quiet whisper. "Lu? Are you here sweetheart?"
As more snow fell, it nearly covered the already barely there paw prints that led into the alleyway. There lay the young male cowering in the corner, trembling lips and damning blue, eyes closed, breaths shallow at best. Snow had begun to cover his body, but even it couldn't cover the gashes and deep claw and bite marks on his ankles and side.
Following the faint tracks, it wasn't far down the alley that Lu lay, the freezing snow and concrete sandwiching him. There was no way he could move right now, blood caked onto his fur. Moving forward carefully, he knelt before him. "Lu?" he whispered almost tearfully, reaching out to stroke the soft cold fur. "Let me look after you, okay?"
It took time; a long few seconds before the voice registered in the freezing, tired, dying wolf's mind. His ears would have perked, but were nearly frozen to the rest of his fur. His eyes fought open, a weak, wheezed whimper managing to leave him at the sight of the other.
"You're okay, you're going to be okay," he whispered, stroking over the fur to brush the snow off. It was horrible to see him like this. "You've been out for so long, I have your steak ready to cook at home," he said quietly, wanting to distract him from the cold and pain. Taking his jacket off, he placed it on the now de-snowed wolf to warm him a little, before putting his arms around him and trying to rub some life back into him. The umbrella from home sheltering them, he pressed a little kiss to the top of his head, hoping that his actions would help a little, before he would have to go and get the car closer.
In spite of the constant whimpers that were barely audible because of how weak Lu was, he managed to lick at the other's cheek, though it seemed like even that took much more energy than it should have, when suddenly more, slightly louder whimpers followed. "Is..everything okay here?" A male asked gently, head tilted as he looked at the two with an honest, gentle concern in his eyes.
The lick at least let him know that he was alright, that he was still mentally healthy. Searching in his pockets for something, anything to eat, he was heartbroken to come up with only receipts. Hearing the whimpers, wondering if it was because of the lack of food, he jumped out of his skin to hear the words. The increased whimpering, and the fact he had stumbled upon them in an alleyway, did not look good, and he moved a little closer to Lu. "W-we're fine here, thank you.." he said, because, even though he was going to have to collect the car to the alley and carry a wolf into the vehicle alone, he had a terrible bad feeling about this man.
His brows knit further at something..something in the air as well as in the other's voice. 'We're fine'... He mulled that over in his mind for a few seconds before the slowing of the other's breath caused his eyes to widen. At once, the male began to dig through his coat pockets. "I.. I know this seems far from sincere but.. Your friend.. he needs to get to a hospital and I can get us a ride and a room" The doctor held out his card to the other, a card which also subtly mentioned his ceo status of that very hospital.
He was trapped, quite literally but also completely stuck. The hurried words and handing of the card were triggering his paranoia. If Lu stayed here he would die, but this male could kidnap them and kill them just as easily. Eventually realising that only one option would result in the slim chance of Lu surviving, he nodded. "Thank you.. That would be nice, but please let me stay with him at all times.. I don't want him to be alone..." He didn't even realise how he was talking about Lu, as if this stranger already knew he was more than a wolf…
Jongsuk's shoulder's visibly relaxed when the other allowed him to help, nodding and quickly calling to have a hospital car sent to them at the alley way. "The car will be here in a few minutes. I asked they have a return car for the driver as well so none of the staff sees who we're transporting" He sighed, slowly kneeling down next to the male, but took care not to be too close. "You have my word.. You can be with him every single second."
"Why are you talking like this? Why does it have to be so secret?" he asked, anxiety now fully heightened as he looked at Lu. He looked like a perfectly normal wolf, no signs that he was a shifter unless this male had been spying on them or tracking them. Now he knew exactly why it was weird. Hospital. any other person would have suggested a vet, but he suggested a hospital.. Just who was he? At the kneeling and the words, he moved closer to Lu, pulling the jacket over him and fussing over him lovingly with even more concern. "I can't leave him..."
Jongsuk sighed- But he couldn't blame the other, they were questions anyone, especially a loved one, would ask. "i'm taking.. quite a risk telling you this but.. Its his blood. You're close enough to him that I'm pretty certain you know he's... more than a wolf. And I'm the type of...person who was able to smell it when I walked by." His hand shook just slightly from the nervousness of telling another his single largest secret. "The differences are noticable enough that any bloodwork done would come up would bring with it questions and I know personally how hard questions of that nature are to explain to others.."
As he listened he pressed his hands into Lu's fur, trying so desperately to warm the younger wolf, just wanting him to be safe. "Yes, he is more than a wolf, and you must be a vampire to be able to smell that," he whispered, not afraid of the vampire, but only what that might mean for his friend. "I wouldn't be able to explain it.." he sighed, hearing the car arrive as he stroked over Lu''s freezing snout. "You're going to be okay," he whispered to him, able to speak openly know that he knew the other wouldn't tell. "I'm Kyuhyun, and this is Lu..."
He smiled in the direction of the young wolf but kept his distance, blinking as he heard the heartbeat of the driver. "I'll be right back" Jongsul ran greeting and thanking the drivers, telling them to go home early after they returned the car, waiting until the were both driving away before signaling it was safe for the two to come, turning on the heat gradually as to not stress the wolf's heart.
Waiting patiently, he stroked over Lu's fur. "You're going to be okay," he whispered, unnerved that the other hadn't given his name in return or confirmed that he was a vampire, but Lu's health was more important. Helping him to get up, he somehow managed to carry the wolf to the car, settling him insides the car and sitting beside him. "Thank you," he said quietly, feeling the warmth start to seep in. "Are you warming up?" he whispered to Lu.
Jongsuk glanced into the mirror to make sure the two were always before he started off quickly in the direction of the hospital. "I'm Lee Jongsuk. I apologize for not giving my name before, but I wasn't sure if you still wanted it since I handed you my card earlier." He paused, listening to Lu's heart grow a little stronger, turning up the seat warmers slowly, "And I am in fact what you think I am" "The wolf let his ears twitch weakly, barely managing to nose at Kyu's hand, wanting, struggling to reassure his Kyu that he was alright.
“It’s alright," he said softly. "That makes sense, but since my friend is so hurt I was really in too much shock to fully understand the card," he explained, knowing he could barely focus his eyes affer seeing Lu in such a condition. Leaning over to hug the wolf carefully, he stroked over the drying fur. "Ah, I see," he said softly, with a little smile. He wasn't scared of supernatural people, after all, there was a wolf shifter in his arms, and he had met a few vampires before. Besides, this man seemed kind, so he had no reason to worry. Feeling the little nudge at his hand, he pressed more kisses to the top of his head. "You're going to be okay, Lu," he whispered, taking the ears into his cupped hands to warm them. "Thank you so much for helping us, you didn't have to do all this, and I truly am so grateful," he said honestly, with a warmer smile as he looked up from Lu's fur.
Keen eyes glanced up from the road just long enough so that his eyes and Kyuhyun's eyes could meet in the mirror, letting the smile linger on his own full lips. "You're quite welcome. I thank you for trusting me as I know full well how hard it must have been to do so. Just try a keep Lu-ssi awake okay? We're almost there"
He relaxed a little at the smile. "Trusting people isn't my strong suit, and especially when I have to keep other's safe as well... I worry a lot about him, he's my dearest friend.." he said softly, before following the instruction and gently booping his snout and scratching behind his ears to keep him awake. "Stay with us, Lu. We'll keep you safe and sound, just try and stay awake for a moment, don't be scared, I'm here with you..."
Jongsuk smiled gently to himself at how close the two honestly were, speeding up a little but making sure not to draw attention of the police. Lu whimpered weakly, trying his best to nuzzle and nose against the other, trying to be okay in spite of how tired he was. "The cold helped slow his bloodflow, even though it did freeze him a little I think it helped him survive..but.." He bit his lip as he turned, nearing a large, fancy hospital. "I might.. I'll almost certainly need him to shift once we get there... Its the only way I'll be able to get him blood transfusions to make any operations.."
The weakness of the whimpers and actions only brought more tears to his eyes. It was a sad thought, but a true one. The fact that he was so cold and shivery was the reason he hadn't bled out completely, and he was thankful for that. Tears welled up as they reached the hospital and the true horror of what was about to happen was revealed to him. Blood transfusions, operations... His poor friend would be hooked up to all kinds of wires, and just the thought of it was making the tears fall, dripping into the thick fur. "Would you be able to do that, Lu? Are you able to shift?" he asked worriedly. "Y-you wouldn't be naked, you can have my jumper to wear to get you inside from the cold, and my jacket too to keep the snow off... You'll be okay, I'll stay with you..."
Jongsuk parked the car in the back closest to the ER rooms and turned up the heat. "I'm going to go make sure the room is prepped. Under your seat there should be a few more blankets to wrap him in. From there just get him inside and I'll be there. alright?" There was a hint of fear that passed through Lu's eyes, for he knew how weak he was.. But he didn't wanna die.. So he gave a weak nod, again trying to nose at the other.
Honestly this was the most scared he had been in a while, but he knew that he had to stay strong for Lu, he had to look after him lovingly. "Thank you, for everything," he said honestly, watching him go before turning back to his friend. "Okay, Lu, it's nice and warm, and I'm right here for you. I just need you to try and shift, then we can help you and look after you. Just shift, and then I'll carry you in, you don't have to worry about walking. I'll keep you safe, Lu," he said softly, hoping he was strong enough to shift to human form as he stroked over his ears, moving to collect the blankets.
The wolf watched as his friend moved just slightly away, taking that chance to more or less hide under the covers and began to shift. It was a slow, painful process this time, and when he was done, blood dripped through that first blanket almost instantly. A weak, whispered whimper left him, hazy grey eyes looking around for his friend, wet, damp pepper grey hair sticking to his shivering forehead.
He could see the pain as he shifted, the blood spotting through the blanket as he removed it, taking two clean ones to wrap around him and keep him safe and warm. Putting his arms around him but not touching the injured body, he pressed a kiss to the damp strands. "You're okay, Lu. I'm going to carry you inside, I don't want you wasting energy on walking.." he explained, opening the car door and wrapping Lu up like a burrito to easily carry him to the door and inside, looking for Jongsuk as he cradled the boy in his arms.
Jongsuk was wainting in the lobby, scrubbed up entirely and ready for what he was sure was going to be a long night. He clicked his car off before gently but quickly ushering the two around the corner and into the room he'd prepped. Lu fought to keep his eyes open, fought to keep barely nuzzling against Kyu and he body quaked.
"Just try and stay awake Lu, relax against me and try not to worry. You're going to be okay, I promise," he whispered, knowing he would care for him completely as he carried him into the room, almost crying again at the sight of the medical equipment. "Sh-shall I put him on the operating table?" he asked, hoping that there was even any blood for a blood transfusion to Lu. Pressing a little kiss to the soft strands, truthfully he didn't want to let go.
Jongsuk lingered only for half a breath of a second, knowing full what what fear sounded like in another's heartbeat before he nodded. "You can leave the blankets around him for now, I just need an arm for the IV to be out." He explain as he pulled out a few bags of blood and set them up as well. "If... If it'd make this any easier.. I could explain everything I'm doing, to keep you informed" He suggested, wanting to help both of them as much as he could as he pulled on his operating gloves.
"Okay, I just don't want him to be cold," he said softly, lying him on the operating table and taking only one slim injured arm out of the blanket pile to allow some blood to flow into his system. "That would make it better, thank you.. Unless it's going to be a pain to have to explain everything.." he said softly, wondering if he would get in the way once the doctor would actually start. Stroking over Lu's hair, he pressed a little kiss to his cheek. "Do you want me to stay here with you or wait outside?" he asked the young boy softly, pressing a kiss to his forehead to distract him from the IV set up.
Lu tried leaning up into the warmth that Kyu provided, barely flinching as the needle pressed into his skin. He could only really whimper, mind too tired to try and piece together human words, but he wanted Kyu to stay, needed him there. "It wouldnt be trouble at all. I want to take care of the both of you, Kyuhyun-ssi, any way I can"
Feeling him lean up, he moved to hug him close, letting Lu nuzzle into his warmth and be comforted with the familiar scent and feel of his arms. Hearing the whimper, he decided not to go, stroking over his hair instead with such gentle sweet touches. He couldn't bear to leave him, knowing he'd turn into a panicky mess in the waiting room. "You're very kind, I don't know what we would have done if you hadn't found us," he said softly. "I'll have to find some giant way to thank you for this," he said with a smile. "I mean, you must run into people who need help every day, but I bet you don't do this for every one, or you'd be broke."
Jongsul ran through a checklist in his mind, blinking up at that smile and then blinking about a million times more before smiling and looking back to the bag, making sure it was working properly. "Its not a problem, trust me. I just.. I saw the way you protected him with your body, the love.. I couldn't just let that sort of thing go." He sighed a little, but now comes the more gritty part, I'm afraid. I'll need to look at and stitch up the wounds, otherwise the blood he's getting will just be lost."
"I do love him, I love him so much," he nodded, smiling lovingly at the male beside him and then up at the doctor across the room. "I'm truly so grateful to you..." At the next words, he sat next to the boy on the table, taking a hand for him to squeeze in pain, and stroking over his hair. "Okay, it'll hurt a lot, right?" he asked, looking at him with worry then turning to Lu. "Squeeze my hand if it hurts, and if it's too much just say, okay? You're going to be stitched up and looked after."
The doctor set up anoter IV, explaining that it was to help the boy regain the water he'd lost out in the cold. He then swallowed a little, examining the various wounds. "I'll numb the areas as much as I can but.. Yes I'm afraid it could hurt quite a bit still. I could but him under but... given his state.." He shook his head. "The chances of him coming back are..slim at best."
Glad to see that the fluids were being replaced, he didn't move an inch from Lu's side, keeping his arms around him as he held him close. Listening, he just felt sick. If the chance of him coming back were that slim, he wouldn't take it. This was Lu's life they were talking about. If it would hurt, then he could squeeze and scream and transfer as much pain to Kyuhyun as he could, so that it wouldn't hurt too much. "It's okay, I'll just help him as much as I can then, will I need to scrub up before the operation? Should I go and get some gloves?"
The vampire thought for only a few seconds as he looked down to the younger with pensive eyes. "If you do intend to be here and help in any way you can.. Perhaps it would be best for you to scrub up as well, yes. " It went without saying that this would be a bloody operation, and with Lu not being put under, that truth would be even more.... unavoidable if there was even the slightest chance the younger male would react to the pain with thrashing.
"I would like to be here, yes. I hate to think of him going through the pain... I want to be here with him, I'll go clean up," he said softly, pressing a last little kiss to Lu's forehead. "Just try and relax, sweetheart~ I'll be right there beside you," he said softly, before heading off to scrub up.
