They were almost there. The goal was to reach this special school by tomorrow, if they could. If not tomorrow, then perhaps the day after. But they knew they were close. Close to salvation and acceptance. But the journey to where they were now had been difficult. Three teenagers with little knowledge of the world, trying hard to get by on their own- Honestly, Sooyeon and Seunghyun were both surprised that they were all still alive. The way this day had been going, however, left them wondering if they would make it through this final night together. It wasn’t quite winter yet, technically, but the first snow fall of the season had started in the midafternoon. Though it wasn’t coming down hard, the temperature had dropped considerably since the night before. They hadn’t been able to afford a sleeping bag for Angelica during this journey, and instead she often shared Sooyeon’s when it was cold or used the one spare blanket when it wasn’t too frigid out. But tonight... tonight it was far too cold for either option. Angelica hadn’t been properly fed when she was at the lab and joining up with two poor kids on the run certainly didn’t make matters any better. The trio had all lost a fair amount of weight since the start, though neither of the girls had much to lose in the first place. Shivering in their semi-worn out tent, Seunghyun came up with the plan to all huddle together for the night. They put the single blanket beneath them for a bit of insulation underneath (the tent had a bottom to it, but it wasn’t particularly good at keeping out the cold). Then the three of them lied beneath both, unzipped, sleeping bags, using them like blankets so that they could cover all three of them. Sooyeon slept on the far left, Seunghyun on the right, and small Angelica stayed between the two in the warmest position. Seunghyun and Sooyeon tucked the edges of the sleeping bags beneath them a little so that the covers wouldn’t move off of them as they slept, and then the three cuddled together to keep warm. “One more night.” Seunghyun murmured, a small reminder that they had almost made it. “One more night.” Sooyeon mirrored his words, a small, tired, smile in place.
