being an under-appreciated conqueror had its perks. cain, for one, didn’t have too big a target painted on his back. while his achievements were duly rewarded, it wasn’t his name attached to the victories. it was always the nation, in one form or another, that was praised for it. at the moment, cain wasn’t too bothered -- let them bask in short-lived glory, while he continued to do good deeds, all until they shouted exaltations and made offerings in his name as the future king.
small victories soothed him. cain saw everything as a game: the cumulative amount of won battles would ultimately win the war, and this, before him, was just another challenge.
“lady dragonborn.” the title came as an insult from him, no matter how gentle his voice or how gracefully he cut into his meat. the table was laid out before them with a feast that not many could enjoy. frankly, he thought that she should at least thank him for his...prolonged hospitality. even if she was cuffed, and he wasn’t exactly cutting the food for himself, but for her, so she would not complain about being a starving guest. the meat was brought to her lips, no longer gagged as it had been weeks ago. “eat.”
