Film Fiesta ✘ Ollie & Ben
The Soho Film Festival is a big deal. Ollie learned that during her first year in the city after she tried to say hello to a stranger in the elevator of some store downtown and was told not to speak to the talent. Since that day she knew she wanted to go to the next one, which she had planned on attending alone. However, the second Ben invited her out she realized that it was going to be an even better night than she had previously imagined. Independent films were one of those things that just made Ollie happy. Seeing the way that low budget companies could create big budget features was impressive, especially in a time where blockbuster hits try to rule the film market. The thought of being around so many talented directors, producers, and even actors didn’t make her nervous anymore though. The thing she was nervous about now was the date, if she could even call it that, with Ben. Since the day he asked Ollie had been frantically thinking about what to wear. What not to wear. What to eat before. Should she eat before? And would there be other girls there who Ben would just randomly say hello to? Would they whisk him away from her by being more pretty or more interesting? Friday night couldn’t come fast enough, until it was really here -- and now it had almost seemed to come too soon.
“Has anyone seen my little black bag? I don’t really feel like carrying around anything tonight?” Ollie stomped around her apartment with one shoe on and the other in her hand, hoping that her roommates would be around to help her out. Of course they weren’t, since they had all probably already made their evening plans or were already at the Film Festival. She looked over at her small chocolate pug and frowned, “Milo, you’ll help me look for my bag, won’t you?” Ollie stopped mid-sentence, realizing her new low had been talking to her dog out of nerves. She shook her head, looking at her phone to see if Ben had texted yet -- but nothing. She bit down on her lip and walked over to fridge to grab a beer, figuring if she had to wait around she might as well get started on the alcohol while the night was young.
