“And two Gods reigned above all.” The mantra was rehearsed, repeated without feeling or meaning, the syllables cold and dry as they fell from a dehydrated tongue. Hours in the chill left his breathing ragged, a hue of red creeping up his exposed cheeks as he searched, and searched, and searched. And even when it was clear that Orion Black had been taken, kidnapped, Cygnus had not allowed himself to stop. “And two Gods reigned above all. Two. Two.” Louder in volume, until his throat was irritated, and still no one answered. His words fell on silence as the streets grew darker, colder, and he was forced to take his anger back home.
The marble of the front room was just as icy as the wind outside, yet it did nothing to deflate his rising frustration. He stalked through the corridors of each room until he found the light of flickering flames through the crack in the slightly ajar door, his fingers touched the wood and shoved it open, relieved only when it cracked against the plaster.
Druella Black was a woman he despised, a woman he strove to torment as if that might punish his father for arranging them. But even through his harsh fingers and cold eyes, his harsh words and curses, the woman never seemed to falter. It was for this reason that he had returned home and sought her out, knowing that she would provide a challenge, a fight. Hoping that she would provide more than just that.
“He’s gone missing.” Cygnus announced, his fingers curling and relaxing, curling and relaxing. He didn’t know if she had heard the news, or if she even cared for Orion’s whereabouts, but he informed her nonetheless. “He’s gone missing, and I’m going to burn them alive when I learn who they are.” He had two guesses, of course, even the most unintelligent of them would have known that he was kidnapped. “And two Gods reigned above all.” He whispered, tightening his jaw, grinding his teeth without realizing.
