rubbing her temples to try and soothe the headache she could feel brewing, lena let out a sigh of relief as she checked her phone. lunch break, which meant her weekly lunch date with kara. she had cleared her early afternoon in order to be able to properly enjoy her best friend's presence and she was, as usual, looking forward to it. relaxing in her chair, she heard the familiar beeping noise as jess told her that kara danvers had arrived. a smile lit up her face immediately as she got up, feeling the stretch in her calves from how long she'd been sitting down, as she made her way towards the entrance of her office, eager to see the other woman. as her eyes fell on the blonde, her smile only widened into a full grin as she reached out to hug her, chuckling softly. "you always arrive at exactly the right time."

lena glanced around, hand coming to cup the woman's jaw gently, eyes soft despite the nerves coursing through her body. "it's okay." she spoke softly, thumb stroking at the skin of natalia's cheek. "i just thought this was - that we were trying to be careful about it." she explained, voice wavering ever so slightly. truth was there wasn't supposed to be anything to be careful about, this wasn't supposed to happen again but god - natalia was here, at her office and she'd just kissed her like it was the most natural thing in the world. and it felt like it. thankfully, most of the office was busy with a staff meeting and jess had left for a coffee run. clear eyes watched her, a small smile tugging at her lips. "guess i'm just irresistible, huh?"

she was just so perfect. rambling on, hair fluttering in the wind, that excited look in her eyes that always reminded lena of their highschool days, of the way natalia looked after english class, eager to explain things to her she never got. symbolism, meaning and the secrets of language. but now she understood it all. how people could say one thing and mean another, how a moment could feel like eternity, how she wanted the entire world to stop if it meant staying here with natalia.

"i missed you too. i feel like i miss you all the time. every time you fly back home, or i get on the jet, it's just - suddenly it's all so painfully lonely, you know?" the words poured out, too sincere, too fast. "sometimes i even miss you when you're lying next to me, asleep. my brain can't help but think of when you'll be leaving again." this time, the emotion threatened to spill, and lena focused on the feeling of natalia's cheek in her hand to push it back. "i'm sorry. i'm ruining the moment."

"you sure you're going to be okay?" lena's brows furrowed as she looked at the other, sitting on the edge of her bed, tilting her head in concern. she hummed to herself, quickly tapping a few texts on her phone before she put it aside. "i'm going to stay over, just for tonight. we can stay in bed, watch stupid movies until you feel better." she offered with a genuine smile, raising a finger at the other's protests. "it's settled, i told jess to cancel my morning meetings, so i'm all yours until tomorrow, okay?" her eyes softened as she gently squeezed andrea's hand, before pushing some red hair away from her face. "so what do you want to do? order take-out? should i open up a bottle of wine? whisky?" she teased with a playful wiggle of her eyebrows.

casual encounters weren't her type, especially with strangers. it was too unsafe, too risky for her image and the company's. and yet - right now - as they sat across from her, in this club, dim lights and champagne flowing, all she could think about was how their hands would feel unbuttoning her silk blouse, exploring her skin underneath.

her teeth found her bottom lip as she watched them, mesmerized, fingers gripping her glass tighter as she uncrossed her legs and crossed them again, almost visibly squirming in her seat. as finally, their eyes met hers, a content smirk spread across her lips, slow and obvious about what she wanted.

the fundraiser was a success so far. every single guest was enjoying themselves, their financial goal of the night was already getting close to reached and the press had seemed impressed by all the influent and powerful people the gala had managed to attract. good. she could finally prove that the luthor name wasn't synonymous with just her brother and his very singular vision of the world. speaking of which, as she turned around to grab a glass of champagne from one of the waiters, her eyes fell on none other than elizabeth knight. of course, she knew she would be there, she had made the guest list after all. no, the surprise was that, for once, there was no sign of lex, her idiotic brother and elizabeth's usual date on her arm as she made her way through the room. eyebrow raised, lena took a swig of champagne as the woman made her way towards her. "elizabeth. flying solo for the night?" she asked, holding back her smirk as best as she could.

her best, fakest smile plastered on her lips, lena was making sure to shake everyone's hand, to laugh at every dumb joke, to make eye contact with all the people in this office who were now officially under her management. well, under her company's management. she hated those official visits that always followed a merger or acquisition. not like she could remember anyone's name, she probably wouldn't even ever come back here, delegating the supervision to one of her board members.

although one face did make her pause a few seconds longer than usual in her carefully choreographed routine. "hi, i'm lena. don't think we have met yet." she grinned, almost sincerely, as she extended a hand towards the gorgeous woman standing in front of her.
