"You're shittin' me, right?" Salem scoffed. "That's clearly not what I was fuckin' talking about it, and you know it."
for my new friend @softnspiteful !
what she was seeing didn't really make sense, but god did it hurt. "what the fuck...." the words left her lips before she could really make sense of what she was seeing in its entirety and, by then, they had broken apart. and before sasha could say anything, before either of them could, she was out the door rapidly. slamming it shut behind her, she was off down the corridor of the hallway, fighting tears and feeling so stupid about ever feeling anything more than friendship for her. she'd realized quickly that she didn't know where hunter was - couldn't find him throughout the party even though she'd looked everywhere. he was probably upstairs hooking up with someone and now she was stuck without a way home because he had the keys and she couldn't leave without him. wiping her eyes, she decided that she'd rather just walk or catch a cab than wait; she'd explain it to him later. some looked on with concern - stares that she hated and reminded her of her past - but she brushed by her teammates quickly and without comment. outside, the wind blew gently and ruffled her hair, to which she pushed back with a quick, frustrated hand. "fuck..." she could hear footsteps behind her as she left the house and cast a quick glance across her shoulder. her face was stormy and sad, downcast, and she immediately rolled her eyes at the sight of sasha there. "i don't want to talk to you."

tori sat with her arms crossed, glare fixed on the two men standing in front of her. one was her father, looking like he was about two seconds from tearing his hair out from stress. the other was a complete stranger. who, as far as she was concerned, already was ruining her life.
“daddy, i don’t understand what any of this has to do with me.” her voice came out sharper than she intended. she’d known what her father did since her 12th birthday, knew he ran the largest organized crime syndicate on the east coast. it had never really touched her before. content to enjoy the perks of the lifestyle without asking questions. until now.
“princess, i told you. your brother messed with the wrong people and now they’re looking to start a war. there could be blowback on you and your mother, which is why he’s here.” his thumb jerked toward the other man. “he’s your security. twenty-four seven, starting now. get him set up in the spare bedroom at your apartment, and i swear, if you argue, you’re moving back home.”
his raised voice makes her flinch. she hates that it does.
“fine,” she mutters. not like she has much choice, at least not yet. turning her attention to the stranger, her frown deepens. “you got a name, security guy, or are you just going to stand there looking intimidating?”

luca hated this kind of shit. his manager having talked him into posing for a sports illustrated photoshoot highlighting athletes under thirty, complete with some painfully cheesy headline he was trying not to think about. under the harsh lights, dressed in full gear, he could feel sweat gathering at the back of his neck. he was just about to ask if they’d gotten what they needed when she walked in. he’d run into desirae at a charity event earlier that month, then again at a party a teammate had dragged him to, and now here she was, looking just as fine as the last time he’d seen her.
“i didn’t know you were coming to this,” he says, already smiling, doing his best to keep his gaze politely on her face instead of letting it wander. “starting to feel like fate keeps throwing us into the same room… maybe it’s trying to tell us something.”

"i thought you said you had a work thing." parker didn't seem unhappy, but she was putting a little distance between herself and the stranger she had been hitting on at the wedding she was at. "i'm glad you could make it in the end."
➙ @softnspiteful a continuation from here.
❛ yeah, alright. ❜ gross, but it would probably take more than a fun night out for the other to kick the dead weight to the side.
@softnspiteful asked ❛ i can't forgive myself for what i've done. ❜ / essence to leah
“Well, what you’re doing isn’t working.,” Leah said bluntly, as she had a tendency to do when she felt it was necessary. “Forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting. You can give yourself the chance to grow.”
