Crowded malls were, quite literally, made of the stuff in Troian’s worst nightmares. A crowded mall in December was as terrifying as it could get. She hated the claustrophobic feeling she got when shoppers hurried past her with stuffed to the brim bags, and the smell of the food court mixed with the loud buzzing of arguments, tantrums, and bargaining with shop keepers made her senses overload. This was why she avoided Black Friday and did most of her shopping online in the safety of her own home.

You couldn’t take a picture online with Santa though, and Troian wanted to get as many of these moments in with her children as she could. So with a cup of black coffee in hand and two Xanaxes down her throat, Troian was ready to face The Grove on this Wednesday afternoon. She peered around the throngs of people to look for Keegan and the kids, catching sight of his tall frame waiting in line. Sophia was nestled on his hip and Phillip was staring in wonderment at the train set circling around them.

Excusing herself to make her way up, Troian swallowed hard as she finally reached them. Today would be the first day the two of them had been in the same room since splitting up and no matter how resigned she was to the fact that once again, it was over, it never really got easier. “Hey,” she greeted and reached over to tickle Sophia’s foot. “At least the line’s moving somewhat quickly, right?” @tfkeegs
