JBJ t-posing to assert dominance
I was watching some TOP interviews and saw that one they did on the day of the private free show in LA—I don’t know if you’ve seen it—and at one point they were talking about stand-up and doing comedy sets. Tyler said he even keeps notes on his phone where he writes down jokes and stuff, and then he started scrolling and picked one thing Jenna had said to him, that their relationship would be better if he didn’t speak English 😭
It’s supposed to be a light joke, but there are so many layers to that line. And when you connect it with other things, like her voicemail in The Craving saying she still didn’t fully know him—even after more than a decade together, living together, it really makes you think. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like they have that kind of deep connection, you know? Or that level of intimacy where you can fully open up to the other person because you feel safe saying anything. It almost feels like there’s some kind of barrier there.
Like, imagine telling your partner that your relationship would be better if they spoke a different language… even in a harmless joke, it kind of shows they don’t have that “you understand me like no one else does” type of connection
i immediately knew what interview you meant so i had to find it real quick. (tyler reads off the joke at 11:00)
honestly, this bit has always stuck with me, because even if it was just a "harmless joke" like, tyler's entire career, most of his life, is built off his (incredible) skill with words, as a writer and lyricist and even interviewee (see that clip where he's talking about guns for hands, that "i know you have the ability to hurt yourself" bit, god. hits me every time) so like, no matter the context, it comes off almost,,,, callous, to say that, the relationship would be better if she couldn't interface with this massive part of who he is
and in general, to say "i think our relationship would be better if we couldn't communicate" is. like, god that feels like a revealing sentiment, and is such a shitty thing to say about your life partner. regardless of context.
"felt cute after hitting bitch baby man suck it franco lol" (the character in the back is @wendigoruble 's )
