The night of January 17th, 2008, Jeanette Hernandez and her husband Pablo Rojo arrived to their lower middle class home in Santiago, Chile, and found a gruesome scene. Pablo Rojo Jr., the 17 year old son of the couple, was lying on the living room in a pool of blood, with a severe blow to his head. By miracle, he was still alive. Esteban Rojo, his younger brother of only 7 years old, wasn't so lucky. They found him dead upstairs with several blows to the head.
The crime rocked the country. There was nothing stolen, so people wondered why someone would target two kids. Could it be drug related? Revenge against the parents? The work of a mad man?
As the investigation developed, the tragic truth came out. It was Jeanette, the mother, who had brutally attacked her kids with a hammer, killing one and leaving the other with permanent damage. Even though she denied it during trial, prosecution established that the motive was jealousy over the close friendship her husband developed with a local singer. Known as Medea Complex, by hurting their children she thought she could get revenge against her husband.
Jeanette is now serving a life sentence, but she was allowed to go out briefly in 2013 to attend the graduation of the son she tried to kill.
