hello! I go by starcrossedandstupid on AO3 so if you’ve come from there, you may have seen me in the comments haha!

I fell in love with Pack Life by Selena_Snow. I love the system and the relationships present, but I thought it would be fun to put my theories in a more coherent state! I haven’t seen a fandom for this fic on tumblr, so I guess I’m starting that?

@violent-backed-starling asked me what I thought would happen if a member of a pair died, so I’m going to try to answer best I can!

If one in a mated pair died(I’m going to say to a player since a member of a mated pair have died to non-players before) Ithink we would have a Ren situation but MUCH worse. Ren attacked because an omega who wasn’t even an actual member of his group/mini pack. And it was violent, he almost killed Tango. Tango didn’t even do it on purpose! Now imagine Martyn had been killed on purpose by someone. It wouldn’t matter what color Ren was, he would have killed them. I think they would basically be red, obviously not actually, but it would be incredibly hard to stop them, much harder than what happened in chapter 4.

if a players mate was killed by another player, I think realistically the player would killed the mate would die by the hands of the partner. This especially applies to if an Alpha had their mate killed since the urge would probably be stronger like seen with Ren in chapter 4, thought totally applicable to non-alphas. While they won’t be red, I think they would function like one, probably just to the person who killed their mate, but they would lash out at those who tried to stop them.

(The second paragraph started as a sum up but I kept adding thoughts lmao)

Don’t know if you’ll see this, but I hope whatever you are going through irl will get better. Life can suck sometimes, but that’s what makes it life, the good and the bad. You’ve brought good into my life through writing this fic lol, it makes my day, so I wish nothing but the same for you. Take however long you need, but remember it won’t stay shitty forever <3

Part Three: The Omegas

While none of the omegas as super likely at the moment, an omega becoming Pack Leader seems like a good plot point, and was mentioned when this part of the system was explained to us, which could definitely be foreshadowing or just extra info. Because of this, I’m going to go through the omegas one by one, not who I think is most likely, since omegas as a whole are more likely than a beta and they have been explored in a way that is tied more to the system power, generally because of the whole Alpha Omega dynamic if that makes sense. Bdubs I don’t think will be going for being Pack Leader, but he clearly is interested in using his scent in his favor. Meaning, he may try and get close to the PL. Shown by Scott, this doesn’t really work on Cleo. That COULD be a PL thing, but I doubt it. So, I think he plays a part in this if Etho is the challenger and wins. They are a tagged ship, and we already know Bdubs’s scent affects Etho a lot. If Etho were to become PL, Bdubs would 100 percent use that to his advantage once he finds out his scent manipulation would affect Etho that much. Suggesting things, working on things from the shadows, stuff like that. Grian I feel is also unlikely at this moment. At this point in the story it doesn’t fit him, though that could easily change. With the Scar/Grian dynamic, if one of them was to become PL it feels like Scar would be the better narrative choice, at least right now. We are still pretty early into the story though, so that could change. Any of what I’ve said could. I could see Lizzie challenging as a way to prove to Joel that she is ok and able to be on her own, as well as giving her a sense of self-confidence, which is one of her main plot points at the moment. I don’t have a lot to say on her, since I don’t have any ideas on how this would come to be. Martyn is in a similar boat with how I’m not sure how it would happen. He is honestly up there for least likely, because his reason for doing so could be to get Ren to stop acting how he is, and I think that is better resolved other ways. Same with Pearl. She has no reason to challenge Cleo right now. They are teammates though, so shit could go down pretty easily there, she just don’t have a reason to go against Cleo yet. I could see it being tied to Gem, though. It isn’t a tagged ship but I am a Shiny duo enjoyer so I’m biased towards it a little lol! Scott I don’t see yet, especially with his alliance with Cleo. However, if Jimmy were to become PL I could see him challenging him. He could not want Jimmy in power, be tired being bossed around by him, Jimmy may even try and use the power to work things out between them forcefully and try and claim him as a mate. So there is potential there, just nothing has been laid for it yet. He would also be high in power if Etho became PL, since they are teaming.

But that the end of this for now, I’ll probably do more posts on Pack Leader stuff as we know more about it and as it becomes a bigger plot point.

Part Two: the Betas

Not a lot to say here, since at this point in the plot none of them would have a reason to challenge Cleo at all. If Cleo were to turn red or consistently put the others in danger, I could see them all teaming up and forming something to put an end to it if talking doesn’t work, but I don’t think any of our betas would take up the position of Pack Leader.
