Trying to choose between PACS or Mini PACS? Read on for some answers
Medical science is ever evolving and with every passing year, we come across a new kind of treatment being discovered for various ailments. And whenever there is a treatment carried out, from the identification stage, the first thing that comes to our mind is tests and reports. It automatically reminds us of the big fat files we get from the hospitals or clinics that get loaded with the reports and images.
To cut down on the use of stationary and reduce the manual filings PACS software was introduced.
Picture Archiving and Communication System are called PACS Software in regular terms. With the use of this software technology, a large number of images or reports can be stored in this system and can easily be shared and viewed whenever required. This generally uses computers networks to share the reports and images for any kind of medical interpretation.
Another version of PACS has been introduced and is called the Mini PACS. It almost does the same functionalities of PACS, only on a smaller version, more precisely Mini PACS is used for single or a couple of imaging type i.e. Ultrasound and carries out very limited exams. Also with Mini PACS connectivity is not the best as it may not connect with other imaging systems.
The usage of PACS Software can be majorly classified as the following:
● Replacing a lot of paperwork-ray images, files, and manual jobs and making it easier to accommodate and access reports and images
● With the remote access feature of PACS, it becomes extremely easy for sharing the reports and images at any given point of time. It enables doctors to view the same documents simultaneously with no hassle at all
● PACS is very useful for radiology practitioners to manage the workflow of Patient treatment reports
Therefore, it is safe to say that Mini PACS is useful for a small clinic setup where too much of data storage or network connectivity will not be required. However, for any large scale Hospital Information System or Radiology Information System PACS software is the best alternative to manual record keeping.
