This track is titled “Pressures of the Altar Call”.  This one speaks for itself.  I used to hate it when revival time came around.  The creation of this track showed me the purpose of therapy sessions.  After I made the beat, I was listening in the car and started talking to myself about those memories of revival (call me crazy).  After I finished, it was a relief.  It felt like I got something off my chest.  So that's how the storytelling idea came about on this beat.  This photo is the church that I grew up in. . This track is title “Short Skirt Goddesses”.  This beat brought to mind how women have always had a hard time in church based on what they wore.  At first, it used to be jeans.  You would constantly hear about how a woman isn't supposed to wear jeans and they would get on them about it.  So..... the females took it to another level and started wearing the skirt shirts and tight dresses.  Now the church is getting on their case about that, so I wonder how they will respond next.   . This track is titled “Aunt Almatean”.  I have some singers in my family and I wanted to incorporate that into the project somehow.  Some of the singers in my family have that strong, soulful voice.  Some of them formed a group called The Traveliers (I think I'm saying that right) and did some work. They have some vinyl out there too.  I just so happen to have some footage of Aunt Almatean that I shot a few years ago which is why she got a track on this project.  What I wanted to do was go through my Grandma's old church service recordings and rip some audio from them.  But this track came about naturally so I ran with it. . The unique thing about the beat is that it is sampled from the original song that Aunt Almatean was singing.  When she sang that song on that night, it was my first time hearing the song.  I did some digging and found out about the original song and sampled it, and that's how it came about. . This track is titled “Same Kool-Aid, Different Cup”. This is just my take on the phrase “They still drinking the Kool-Aid”. The beat was made with a slow pace with some pain in it, which was similar to a long journey. I connected this with the Jim Jones situation because it is a long journey to give up the Kool-Aid, but if you drink it for too long, it can be deadly. . This track is titled “E-Ko-Bala-El-Shabba-Da”. Everything that goes into this track from the title, to the artwork to the beat is just a lot of church elements thrown together. The title comes from the people who speak the language of “tongues”. The cover has the elderly lady with the big hat on who would check you in a heartbeat. The beginning of the beat has that loud congested but rhythmic sound that came from the church and the rest of the beat has a groove that brought praise dancing to mind. This track is titled “Choir Robes & Hollow Tips”.  This was one where the beat came after the concept.  I was thinking about how there have been church shootings that have taken place.  Then I started thinking how that should be impossible to do in a church.  The church already has the foundation of a community, they are just missing the combat aspect of it.  They have the building, food, money, members, leaders, entertainment, rituals, and everything except combat.  Then I thought about the choir because they could be the soldiers of the church.  They already have the uniforms, they march, and a lot of the time, they are facing the entrance doors, so they can see who is coming and going.  This is how the concept of Choir Robes and Hollow Tips came about. . This track is titled “Easter & Funerals”.  These were the times when the church was packed.  There is really no significance behind this one.  I made this beat and just put the title with it. Next week I will be discussing “Choir Robes & Hollow Tips”. #padgod #beattape

This track is titled “Bicep Veins”.  It's one of those beats that I made quickly after hearing the sample.  The title came to me immediately because the beat is so hard body. The only thing missing from it is some @bigbodybesnewyork poetry.  . A few weeks after making this, I met up with a friend I haven't seen in a long time, Rob Niter.  He is a bodybuilder, so we hung out in the gym and we talked fitness and nutrition.  He was also working out and I was taking photos.  During one of the moments between sets, he was talking while resting his arm on this machine.  I saw the vein, and thought "this is gonna be the cover art for Bicep Veins".  That is how the picture came about. .
