damn bitch we got a trilogy now
in between losing all my necrobinder runs because I don't know how to build her just yet i got this dialogue with pael and it's killing me
like hey . I just died to the act 3 boss 20 minutes ago and you hit me with this?
The Defect whirs softly as it enters the Melting Dragon's domain. It finds Pael swiftly and makes a small bow, making a greetings beep. It seems a little damp... And scalded. And dented. Waterfall Giant? Waterfall Giant.
(@sosaysthedefect)
*The Ancient yawns, his eyes blinking slowly before settling on the robot.*
Oh... hello again little construct.
*His head tilts slightly, looking over the Defect.*
You don't look so well... Rest with me for a moment?
*He taps the large stairwell with a claw, doing his best to make his smile not too lopsided nor ominous.*
randomly reading this dialogue between Pael and the Necrobinder and it made me think of something
So we know from the Timeline that Silent has sister issues, right? Whereas the Necrobinder (from the little canon lore that we have of her) seems to have been born into a very loving family? Anyway, we know that one of the biggest reasons Necro is going after the Architect is to avenge her family. She probably associates the concept of having a "father" with being loved and cared for as that was what her father was most probably like. But unfortunately, her father and mother (I'm making assumptions but it seems like they were a het couple) were basically murdered by the friendly Giant's brother (probably under the influence of the Architect). And because she associates the Architect so much with causing pain and destruction to her life — the very opposite of the love she experienced from her own parents — she can't view him as having been a loving father/creator to Pael in the past. She feels drawn to the dragon because he reminds her of the Giant she had befriended and it soothes her, but despite his comforting presence, she disagrees with his pacifist outlook on handling conflict. She can’t conceptualize the idea that the same person who destroyed her life was also capable of being a loving enough father to Pael to the point that Pael does not want him killed in spite of what he has done.
From the interactions that Pael has with Silent, it doesn't seem like he knows much about her sister issues (and obviously, she doesn't disclose any of that to him), but given that he said to Necro that “we do not choose our family,” I wonder if he would empathize with Silent if he knew about her complicated relationship with her sisters and her need to prove herself to them in some way even though she's been estranged from them for a while. Knowing that she did not choose her family either, just like how he didn't choose to have the Architect as his father. Knowing that the Silent did not choose to have sisters that belittle her accomplishments and skills as a huntress and who seem determined to think that their way of doing things is superior to whatever Silent does (I imagine that the whole “to speak is weak” thing they imposed on her is essentially a lot like the parenting philosophy of “children should be seen and not heard” — it’s a way for them to control her so that she doesn’t challenge or question their authority, like when she presents the piece of the Heart to them and she can’t challenge their disapproval despite the lengths she went to in order to kill it). Especially since he still loves his father but (this is more speculation territory) also might have slightly complicated feelings toward him knowing that his Blighted self caused someone like the Necrobinder so much grief and to turn to something as abhorrent as violence.
And since all of the characters are puppets of Neow and are sent specifically by her to kill the Architect, he can't really do anything other than try to maybe discourage them from killing his father. Pael seems to be very pacifist and ultimately wants the father he knows (who has been changed and altered by the Blight that Neow poisoned him with) to come back, but understands that each of the climbers have a reason for wanting to kill him, even if he greatly disagrees with them going down the violent path.
(except Defect, kind of, as the construct seems to be pacifist as well and is really only fighting because it is also a puppet of Neow, but really it just wants to be fixed and to get its friend Flaw fixed as well. I think it probably has a similarly complicated relationship with the Architect that Pael has given that he is its creator)
