Chapter 6 page 171
A short translation from the Golden Kamuy Fanbook
What was the meaning of the mouse who was brought to Edogai-kun by his Neko-chan?
There could be two possible reasons. The first behavioural pattern is that the cat might think himself to be harder than Edogai-kun or as if Edogai were his cub. Maybe the cat knew that hunger is terrible for a cub and brought him a mouse to eat. Or possibly, the cat acted like any feline and wanted to make Edogai-kun practice how to kill a prey by bringing him a weakened one, like a parent cat. The second pattern is that the cat brought the prey mouse to boast how smart he is and wanted to get some praise from Edogai-kun. No matter which pattern is true, the cat might believed himself to be greater than Edogai-kun.
The Ainu word 'meko' is a mispronounce of the Japanese word 'neko'. However, there are people who think that 'meko' comes from 'me' (’coldness’) and 'ekot' (’to die from’) indicating that cats don't like the cold.
Are there any similarities between Solitary Sniper Ogata and a cat?
Ogata Hyakunosuke is often called ’The Wildcat’. Let’s compare him to a cat!
Ogata's personality:
Kari ga suki. Hitori de kakure monokage kara sogeki ni yoru kari o okonau. Mawari no kiritsu yori mo jibun no kangae ga yuusen. Kyouchousei ga nai. Juu e no kodawari ya, oorubakku de gunbou mo kaburazu fuudo-zuki manto. Kodawari no katamari.
Likes to hunt. He hunts alone, sniping from spots hidden from view. He prefers his own concepts instead of the surrounding rules. He isn't cooperative. He's obsessed with guns, wears his hair swept back with the military cap off but his cloak hood on his head. He is the embodiment of chasing perfection.
A cat's personality:
Kari ga suki.
Likes to hunt. As a solo player, its hunting style is hiding and waiting for an ambush. It behaves as its own feelings and views goes first. Uses own methods. As a free animal, it's strongly determined. Due to its stubborn personality, a cat rejects things it doesn’t like.

You don’t have to buy me chicken from a creepy restaurant stall to make me, happy. A Ko-fi is just fine!
