So you're telling me. Neither of these queerly made men are capable of loving Nimmie Amee anymore. But both are still willing to in order to bring her happiness but won't interfere if the other wants to.
Already insane.
And then Woot suggests they draw lots for her. bitch this book isn't for real.
Literally every time there's this weird gay undertone to how the tin characters are written it's underlined with their societal duty to marry a woman who loves them. This is echoed in the only other real romance Baum has written in the Oz series, and I seem to remember Pon saying something to a similar effect in The Scarecrow of Oz, it being his duty to love back a woman who loved him. (I'm not living up to my url, I can't find the quote, PLEASE respond to this or DM me if you have it). And then literally every time their social duty is pointed out Woot or someone else IMMEDIATELY EVERY TIME WITHOUT FAIL makes some weird af misogynistic comment. What is happeningggggg

“She was a king’s daughter, she was a king’s sister, she was a king’s wife. She was a queen, and by the same title a king.” - John White, bishop of Winchester, at Mary I’s funeral, 13th December 1558
/You said you envied your unthinking, untroubled sisters./ That is not quite the same as wishing to be one.
Cloud Atlas, by David Mitchell
