Now you just have to draw E. You know it’s a distance of 5 away from D, which means it could go in one of two places (both shown in red dots below).

So there you have it. Point E will either be 1 or 11 away from point A.

So the salesman makes $1200 per month no matter what he sells, plus 20% of the dollar amount of his sales in that month. If his monthly sales were x dollars, then his pay for that month would be 1200 + 0.20x dollars.

The question tells us he made $2500 one month, and asks us for his sales for that month, so we set up this equation:

1200 + 0.20x = 25000.20x = 1300x = 6500
