It's a huge character development moment for Challe in vol. 6 when he tolds Bridget to talk to her dad, he gave her a little push in the right direction. The old Challe wouldn't have done that, he would have just ignored her and treated her like she didn't exist. But to get directly involved with other human beside Anne, especially one that he greatly disliked is huge for him. In vols 5 and 6 he got more involved with the Paige workshop and he felt genuinely comfortable being around other humans beside Anne. Sadly, the anime didn't included these important milestones in his development. In the anime he's still detached from the workshop.
