Pairing Dynamic: The Golden Knave and the Wounded Knight
Also known as: Our Baggage Matches
The Golden Knave: This character has committed bad acts and isn’t sorry about it. They do what they need to do to survive and thrive. Their childhood, or at least part of it, was a nightmare. Their trauma makes them unwilling to trust. Until they meet the Golden Knight. They will come to trust and believe in that person above all others. All of their dark skills will be at that person’s command. They want to be better for the other person. Unfortunately, the Knave lacks the ability or even the desire to communicate any of that. Instead, they will commit grand feats to protect and serve the Knight without telling them. These feats may even damage the relationship. The Knave pines. They long. Often they will have a full redemption arc just to be worthy and might STILL not tell the Knight in words how they feel.
The Wounded Knight: The knight may not be in the role of a good character from the start, but their intentions are ultimately noble. Just like the Knave, their childhood or some point in their past was traumatic. They have suffered and they strive to make sure no one else will suffer like they did. Unlike the Knave, past betrayals are taken to heart, but do not close them off from new people. They have loyal friends, who see their essential nobility. The Knave is someone that frustrates them, but also drives them to improve their skills and be the best they can be. They are intrigued by the Knave and will fall in love with them when they accidentally see the cracks in the facade or one of their grand feats is revealed. The Knight also struggles to articulate their feelings and has reservations about loving someone like the Knave.
The Dynamic: These two are so fiercely loyal to each other that to cross one is to cross the other. Everyone else knows there is something romantic happening here, but neither of them initially think so. They understand each other’s pain and the way they protect themselves. They may seem sometimes to communicate telepathically while using their highly compatible skills. That bridge of empathy and understanding is the foundation of their relationship. They will certainly bicker and have brutal arguments, but even when they are furious with each other, they will defend each other to the death. The Knave helps the Knight improve their skills and unleash their inner badass. The Knight brings out the best in the Knave.
Examples (Knave/Knight): Jaime Lannister/Brienne of Tarth, Kaz Brekker/Inej Ghafa, Garak/Julian Bashir, Loki/(Almost Any Other Character in the MCU), Jyn Eerso/Cassian Andor, Gregory House/James Wilson, Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier
I saw some ppl sharing their favorite dynamics, so these are mine!💕 I used to love optimistic bottom and pessimistic top so much, but now I also like them reverse if the top is a silly boi☺️
FYI. Misusly in my perspective is like two of them combined for some reason lol
