So I was wanting to know which rooftop scene you liked better from sub & dub, because I noticed a small difference in one part. After Satoru told Yashiro about him killing his mom in the future he said in the dub, "Your mom? Why would I kill- Hold on.. Are you saying you can-?!" while sub he said, ""Murdered in the future"? What are you talking about?". It kind of seems like Yashiro believes/understands him more in the dub. >u<
Oh man I’d have to go with sub on this one. It’s really really close though, and it’s really a matter of nitpicking, so your mileage may vary. But it’s a shame, because I think the English VAs nailed it in a lot of respects – but that line that you mentioned in the dub really rubbed me the wrong way.
I guess because… it means that Yashiro logically made the jump from “killed in the future” to “time travel” to “Satoru is a time traveler” and immediately believed him, which… is a hell of a jump in logic. Yashiro isn’t an illogical person, and even if he had been thinking about Satoru’s “I know your future!” for fifteen years I don’t think anyone would have seriously considered time travel?
Even manga!Yashiro needed Revival really laid out for him before he believed Satoru, and you can see the range of emotions on his face: shock and surprise, before kind of mellowing into a “oh, I see” kind of face. But even that was a pretty slow reaction, taking a few panels.
So the implied instant believing in the dub is a bit too… crass and convenient to me? It’s way too immediate to me. I would have preferred a line closer to the sub, where you can see Yashiro kind of getting it and starting to work it through. It seemed more realistic to me.
