Day 8: Left Marbella today and drove to Malaga to spend a few nights more in Andalusia. . Since we left Spain ten years ago, we had heard about all the changes in Malaga: new museums opened and historical sites and buildings cleaned up and restored. . We chose a hotel which opened only in December, had to close for several months during the quarantine and finally reopened only a few weeks ago. . @palacio_solecio is a palace built in 1789 which was the home of Felix Solecio, a Genovese nobleman, who managed the Royal Factory of Playing Cards. The palace served as the family home and the warehouse to store the playing cards before they were sent off to the Americas and the rest of the colonies. The palace’s architect was Jose Marti de Alfehuela who also designed the Puente Nuevo bridge in Ronda. . The palace is situated on a pedestrian street, Calle Granada, a few minutes walk from the cathedral, the Picasso museum and the city center. . Our deluxe palacio room is spacious and modern with hardwood floors, closets and walls, a red and white velvet headboard matching the curtains, a pretty little window seat on the wrought iron balcony overlooking the cobblestoned street and the Santiago church where Felix Solecio’s remains are. . The bathrooms are large with a separate rain shower and freestanding tub and a pretty herringbone patterned floor. . The lobby is a combination of brick walls, stone floors and natural straw window blinds. Courtyards have topiary plants in striped herringbone painted pots and allow light into the lobby and the hallways upstairs. . Such a beautiful renovation for an 18th century building, the Palacio Solecio manages to combine modern amenities and design without erasing the palace’s historical significance and sense of place. . #TravelswithaGourmet #TWAGMalaga #PalacioSolecio (at Palacio Solecio) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDhW3u4HDPl/?igshid=7ve6etaddap7
