happy birthday basil!
Kiss Me, Son of God (They Might Be Giants) I built a little empire out of some crazy garbage / Called the blood of the exploited working class / But they've overcome their shyness, / now they're calling me Your Highness / And a world screams "Kiss me, Son of God
Pale Machine (Bo En) The Narrator used to feel empty and despondent in life, but they find happiness in listening to the person that they love and doing what is asked of them. They have given up all control over their life and become a "Pale Machine." [I just woke up today / Eat my corney flakes for you] [I just wanna be with you / Doing what you do, always / Show me how to live] [(Like clockwork) / Just a perfect life / (Perfect circle perfect circle) / Pleasure in every move we make / (Like clockwork) / Perfect every time / (Well rounded) / (Every time)] It reminds me of the statement "The Puppeteer," in which a man was puppetted through a parody of daily life through a pulley system.

Date: Wednesday January 10th Album: pale machine Artist: bo en Released: 2013 Genre: experimental pop Review: I’ve never seen an album that felt quite so much like it was storytelling. The way each songs builds in the instrumentals and layers feels like being guided through a new place, overwhelmed by sights and sounds but enamored all the same. Disparate elements are blended with perfect harmony, and the songs ebb and flow like the plot of a great novel. The album is bright, but not weightless or dreamy like other pop-adjacent albums I’ve listened to recently. There’s a weight to everything, layers in each song that invite a sort of depth to the tracks. Though the lyrics and beats are somewhat cheerful, there’s a harsh forward momentum to every track pressing ahead almost forcefully. It creates a slight dissonance that captures a contradictory set of feelings, but welcome ones. It’s a great album to sit with— powerful enough to wake you up and filled with enough layers to keep your interest throughout multiple listens. My time, the final track, is a standout Favorite Track: my time
