August 7, 2024 - Pale-capped Pigeon (Columba punicea) Found in parts of eastern India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand, these pigeons live in forests, shrublands, and cultivated areas. They eat fruit and seeds, usually foraging alone or in small groups in trees and on the ground. Breeding from May to August, they build flimsy twig nests in bushes or bamboo. They are classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN as their small population is thought to be declining due to habitat destruction and hunting.
