if you could, how would you flesh astral and mist out as characters? especially since they sort of got the short end of the stick in canon, especially mist

HOOOOOOOOO BOY. Lol. I am apologizing now because I know this is long, and I am sorry. <3

I also apologize for the ramble style of this but I have no other way to articulate thoughts at this second --- agshdjk

1.) Let Astral have a relationship outside of Yuma. I adore the sunshine boy plenty, but good grief he can be a blackhole of a main character.

(Even things like the Zexal morph? He had predominant control, and Astral was a glorified voice in his head. And, this could be inaccurate, but I remember it even being to a point were people lowkey treated Z forms with the vibe as if they just?? Were Yuma?? Maybe that’s more a fanon thing I am misremembering cause I haven’t watched Z1 in a spin, but you get the gist)

Though I know the central issue is that Astral’s character was written in a poorly handled way for what was supposed to be and advertised as the Secondary Main.

Astral was reduced to being the “ghost duelist” for nigh the entirety of the series. They forced him to not be able to really get to know anyone else. Yuma alone could interact with him, see or talk to him. He had no development that wasn’t attached to Yuma, and even with Yuma his development got still snuffed or overshadowed a lot.

There was even some plot device with the pendant having some invisible or implied tether? So Astral couldn’t physically remove himself from a certain radius to the pendant and/or Yuma -

(mentioned in that filler montage episode where Kite keeps freezing time to check all the places the two have dueled, but then again, an earlier episode where Yuma lost the key and reminisced about his dad also maybe contradicts this, so idfk)

Anyway - That contributed a lot to Astral’s entire character falling flat and often being codependent. And, at worst, horribly stilted and one-dimensional. Yuma had all these other explored relationships, with different sets of characters, but Astral didn’t and couldn’t.

Number 96 was probably the closest thing we got to Astral having that. And in the end that in itself was. . . not much, to say the least. Lol

But yeah I think if Astral had someone else to bounce off of, it would have broken ground for a lot more in-depth things to be fleshed out for him.

Speaking of the goo ink boi;

2.) You give all basically all season 1 villains redemptions. Give Shark like nineteen. Even make Don Thousand and Eliphas sympathetic. Topping it off with a cherry of Vector redemption (??!).

But don’t throw a single, gosh-darned bone Mist’s way. That is pure disrespect.

And that is all I am gonna say on this because GOSH this is already long!

I’ve actually thought of this. LOL

Okay so the thing is, I acknowledge that my personal headcanons are heavily affected by fandom divulgent/interwebs/tumblr culture. I am fully completely aware that if Mist had gotten a human form, Konami would have slapped some macho-bad-boy-leather-jacket recreation of Vector’s second human form (or I guess “official” human form). Because obviously 96 is straight-heterozexual-cis-male coded. Obviously. Mhm.

Now, do I vibe with that?

I do utterly believe that 96 would find it hilariously barbaric and barbarically hilarious that humans wear the skins of animals as fashion, and would follow that trend pseudo ironically but not really ironically. And would rock the heck out of it, no less.

But, what you have to understand is, this character has been one of few in existence that fully grew up with me and became a true, legitimate, comfort character. Alongside Astral.

Thereby my perspectives of them, between who they are as per existing in my brain and who have been beside me since I was a teenager - are starkly different to what you see when those characters appear on the screen of your computer.

Now I stated how I know the show would do him as a human, here’s how my long beloved version of them exists as a human. To me.

His style sense of style would not be a Vector-esquestraight outa the gate ready for runway. Mist would go through all those preteen stages of thinking “I am going to wear this this and this and will be flawless in that combination” But in actuality would be *insert any pic of me/you/anyone in that stage of preteenhood thinking we look hot to trot*.

All it would take though was one comment from someone offhandedly mentioning his “trash core” look for them to become Astral for a week and go into heavy research mode on how to successfully edit up their wardrobe. They are trying, okay. And he gets it eventually!

The actual clothes themselves would have gender fluidity, some days feeling a more masc style, some more fem, and a lot androgynous. And once again, Mist rocks all of the looks.

As for physicality, I imagine his hair would take on juuuust a touch of the purple hue surrounding their alien form. Their swoops would also curl more dramatically towards his face, one of the strands even acting like bangs near their right eye.

I’ve always gone back and forth on whether he lets his heterochromia show in their human form, at this point I’ve kinda decided that that may also be something they can choose to have show or not. afgshjdkf

Some day in the future I am going to sit down and actually commit to a full body of them as human, not just a vague vision behind my eyes. Some day. XD <3

Okay throwing a curve-ball at that first query, cause I think it stands to reason everyone who know me knows my top answer to that question agshdjk

Really really wanted to know more about the Astral World denizens, and for me Enna is high up there. What was her role in the alien hierarchy? Why does she look like Yuma’s mom?? Felt like that string was leading to something but got ✂️ before we could follow it anywhere.

As for art goals~ I wanna practice the Zexal-style even more. I do well enough at that on paper but the second I try it on digital? Eck. AFGSHDJK I do have a shelved project that I wanna de-shelf soon though 👀 it’s indulgent, but if anything would push me to be consistent with zexal art, it’d be that lololol

And, just; Digital art practice in general, I think. I soooo need it. Barely used my drawing pad yet and I have no excuse because I got it LAST christmas 🤣 I wanna learn how to do those cool lighting enhances and color stuff with layers.

- Post Canon, Astral was able to make and find a home for himself in astral world. Took some time to pave that road, but he made his own life there and people soon accepted him as his own person rather than just a weapon success story.

- Whenever his family‘s bickering starts to dissolve into real arguments, Michael will bust out his sword and calmly tell everyone to play nice. It works.

- Mist would and has given heels a try. Unironically.

- Cathy’s obsession with Yuma teetered off completely during Second Year. Anna’s obsession with Yuma pittered out slowly through freshmen year high school. Tori and Yuma broke up (without ever having really been together) almost immediately, but she stuck to her stubborn obsession for longer. It took her awhile to grow up, move beyond it. She did eventually though.

Cut from the same cloth as Don Thousand’s power to heighten the chaos in a soul to turn their hearts to darkness. (And Yuma’s thing about chaos in a healing way.) Being the Son of Balance; Jey has the ability to alter the levels of both Chaos and Order within soul. Without them necessarily becoming resultantly dangerously imbalanced, or “sick” from it. Like turning a dial. Able to keep those levels stable at wherever he’s changed it to. (Not nearly to the grandiose capacity his father can, but still.) As you can imagine, Jey of course only uses this for very serious matters and circumstances. . .

( Astral got too sassy once so Jey made him temporarily not Ranked high or Order-ly enough to retain flight ability )
