Yes, quite a lot! I don’t know why, but it feels juuuuuuust different enough to be fun.

Actually no, as much as that would fit my overall vibe. I’m just enough of a skeptic to be all “it’s a scam lol” but also just enough of a Catholic to be all “sure but what if you accidentally make friends with a demon??? what then binch???????” so it’s never quite happened.

Yeah! Well, there are a lot of options because I’m fake deep and love snappy things said by other people, but there’s basically two that come to mind.

“Wherever there is a human being there is an opportunity for kindness” is my real number one, because compassion is a driving force/goal of mine. I also like that this quote could be interpreted as meaning that every person is an opportunity for me to show kindness, or that every person could always choose to show kindness and that I shouldn’t give up on other people.

Also (from Welcome to Night Vale), “Above us only stars. Below us only stars. To all sides only stars. Inside us only stars.” This captures the feeling I get of the holiness and beauty of everything, both in my own thoughts and feelings and in the outside world. It’s all stars, and we’re so lucky.

6. Are you an optimist, realist, opportunist, or pessimist?

I try really hard to be an optimist, but I fall into pessimism pretty easily thinking its realism. ;0;

12. Does time go by fast or slow to you?

Generally fast.  I guess if I’m stuck somewhere I don’t want to be or something else extremely uncomfortable then time can slow down...

13. What time do you go to bed? What time do you wake up?

If nothing exceptional is going on, generally sleep between 10pm-12am, and wake up around 8am-10am.  I think I’m finally getting something resembling a routine in this.

14. Favorite sweet food?

I am a weirdo who really likes seasonal sweets that have a reputation for being gross... like candy hearts, candy corn and peeps!  Also would love to eat a bucket of cookie dough if given the opportunity~

18. Comfort book?

Anything by Tove Jansson, especially the Moomin books and comics <3

22. Describe your life in 3 words.

Uhhhhhh, KEEP! ON! GROWING! as far as the current moment... Just trying to get some major steps in adulthood completed ;0;

1. The movie that got you into old Hollywood.

The reason I started watching movies from before 1980 (although I’d seen It’s a Wonderful Life during xmas and other things) was because I decided I needed to stop being a fake and actually watch the movies if I wanted to be hanging up posters of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn like the basic b*tch I was!!!!

But there’s one other person I should credit, and it’s the director Billy Wilder who made “Some Like It Hot” with Monroe and “Sabrina” with Hepburn because those two films lead me to digging through Wilder’s filmography and its really from there that I really became interested in the era as a whole.

9. Favorite Screwball Comedies

There are still a lot of lesser-known screwballs I have to watch but my top faves thus far are: Ball of Fire, Midnight, My Man Godfrey, The Palm Beach Story, The Lady Eve, Bringing Up Baby, I Married a Witch, and Arsenic and Old Lace

14. An Underrated Movie

HOLIDAY.  By far my favorite of the Grant-Hepburn collaborations.  I’m still in awe at how GOOD of a romance it is over 50 years later.  A romance that is built off of a not only a genuine enjoyment of each other’s company, but also off of the fact that their values are compatible in the long-term.  He inspires her to escape the rut she’s been stuck in, and she saves him from getting stuck in that very rut himself!  And of course it helps that their chemistry was off the charts.  With excellent support from one of my favorite character actors Edward Everrett Horton and Lew Ayres as the cynical, depressed little brother who always has something to say, it’s just a perfect movie.

(Bonus: Carefree is a wonderfully zany film.  Ginger Rogers gets to be completely silly and is delightful doing it.  It’s often at risk of getting forgotten as an Astaire-Rogers collaboration but I’d definitely consider putting it in my top 3.)

10. Favorite animated movie?

Mimi wo Sumaseba, or Whisper of the Heart! Just the sweetest and most sincere film… Amasawa Seiji will ALWAYS be my ideal.

17. Favorite indie film?

This is coming from someone who though Scott Pilgrim was a mainstream film… but after going down the rabbit hole of what even is an indie film, I just want to give a shoutout to Bagdad Cafe, an underrated English-language German film about a gas station/cafe/inn around the Mojave Desert and the people who live/work/wander through there. 

 The film specifically focuses on the friendship that forms between the black woman who owns the establishment and a German tourist who ends up there after a disagreement with her husband. It’s a very odd but ultimately sweet film done on a low budget. (So I think it counts…)

26. Best experience going to the movies?

Seeing my favorite San Francisco film, Harold and Maude, at one of my favorite San Francisco theaters, the Castro theater!

34. An underrated movie?

Kinda already did that, but there are so many underrated films so I’ll talk about another one… The Linguini Incident! Which has a very poor quality copy on youtube is a screwball comedy (though they’ll never call it that because it was made after 1949) starring David Bowie and is just immensely funny and odd. Featuring things like green card marriages! bras that have hidden knives in them! Houdini wannabes! Among other very fun things. 

Also since we’re here, Phantom of the Paradise SHOULD be one of De Palma’s best known and most celebrated films but HERE WE ARE in the bad place.

42. Films you wanted to watch, but never got around to watching?

I mean I’m doing my best to rectify all of these but I don’t want to watch Taxi Driver, A Clockwork Orange (most of Kubrick really), or the Godfather Trilogy till my Mom’s back home to watch them with me so those are at least put off until next year even though they are supposedly ESSENTIAL.

53. A movie that not many have heard of that you’ve seen?

Thanks to filmstruck now, a bunch… but according to Letterboxd the least seen movies I’ve seen are “La Fille du Diable” and “Macadam” which I caught at the Roxie, where they do this special even 2-ish times a year where this archivist screens a bunch of rarely screened French film-noirs. I specifically went to see them both because they featured a little known French actress Andree Clement, described as “the original goth girl,” who died very young. 

I’m ambivalent about the film-noir genre but both of the films were very good and I would recommend them if the opportunity to see them ever presents itself.

62. Favorite genre?

The screwball comedy, the biological horror and the black comedy is the holy trinity of subgenres.

71. A move that made you ache for love?

If I think about the final scene of The Age of Innocence for too long I start to cry.

hmmmm probably how i drink tea. i usually try to incorporate something into it to help me get through the day depending on what i’m doing that day. i also like to try out various sleep spells/tricks/charms since my sleep routine is awful.
