Old barn in the Palouse, Latah County, Idaho, 2006.
Unlike all too many structures of its vintage, this one has been preserved and is now used by the botanical garden at the University of Idaho. At one time the Palouse was notable for its numerous interesting barns, many of them of unique designs, but the vast majority have been demolished. If they have been replaced it is with a "Butler Building," a pre-fab metal structure common almost everywhere in agricultural areas.

(1) Abandoned, dilapidated farmhouse or equipment shed in a field just off Hwy 195 near Colfax in eastern Washington. Interesting that the crop is gown around the structure as if it weren't even there. Whoever farms this land must have an appreciation for things historical, or just old. (2) Taken from Steptoe Butte. (4) How the farmers of the Palouse decide what areas of the fields get planted and which lie fallow I do not know. But I like the curvy, abstract patterns and textures that result.
