for the love of museums
Late post as always. Bear with me. :)
So I guess Sundays will now be spent with my ever loving pamangkins. Ain’t that such a good way to celebrate Sundays?
I’ve been thinking of things to do last Sunday and almost gave up when Gi asked when we’ll go to the museum in Manila since I promised to tour them around. And since my father didn’t really want to go out because he’ll be meeting some friends, we decided to go before lunch time since the museum is already opened by then.
Yes, I braved the busy and traffic streets of Manila for a Sunday adventure with the pamangkins.
I’ve been visiting the museum for different exhibits there so we headed first to the National Museum of Fine Arts, of course! We went to see the Spoliarium and they were in awe with how big and detailed it was. I'm glad they enjoyed and appreciated the art being showcased during our visit. They kept asking questions and took time looking at the pieces of art.
After we completed our visit to the Fine Arts building, we saw street food vendors outside of the museum. Since we already had brunch before going to the museum, we just had a quick snack. We bought tokneneng, sweetcorn, and gulaman for drinks.
We then went to the National Museum of Anthropology. That was one of my favorite buildings before pandemic but it seems that the interactive installations there have been removed. I've always loved the evolution and culture of the pieces displayed before. However, it seems that most have been changed and removed to adjust to the social guidelines.
And the highlight of the museum was the visit to National Museum of Natural History. They were most excited about this one because of the architecture and the remains of Lolong. I must admit, we were all tired already by then going from one building to another that Gi even had a hard time using the stairs. But it was worth it. There were a lot of changes after my last visit before the pandemic. The foyer even looked grand and there were new installations now.
It's good that admission is free for these attractions making it more accessible for people to know more about our history and culture. The downside is that there are a lot of people visiting the museum but it is well kept.
I love visiting museums because it reminds us of the history and important happenings before our time. It tells us a lot about what should and should not be repeated. It shows us the beauty created by the people before us. While the artifacts are good to look at, these are just reminders of their existence and how they interpreted what was currently happening during their time for the next generations.
Now, what museum should we visit next?
