7 Tips to Get Beautiful Nails
Most of us overlook the importance of nails that we don’t give it the care that it needs. Aside from keeping them strong and healthy, well-kept nails are also a good telling sign about your hygiene. So here are some tips to get those beautiful and pink nails.
Keep your nails moisturized.
Unlike your skin, the thing about nails is that they don’t have fats which prevent them from holding in moisture. That is why you should take the extra mile to keep them moisturized so that they don’t chip or break easily. You can soak them in tepid water and then apply moisturizing lotion, hand cream, or petroleum jelly before you go to bed at night. Also be very careful when you soak your nails because overdoing it could lead it to be more sensitive, and may even cause it to dry out.
Protect your nails when doing chores.
Doing household chores can expose the nails to different types of chemicals. This includes detergents and other cleansers. So to protect your nails appropriately, it is advised that you wear gloves to prevent the harshness of the soap and the brushing action from damaging your cuticles.
Be careful with the products that you put on your nails.
For those who are fond of nail polish you should carefully choose the brands that you use. Avoid those that contain formaldehyde because these can be very drying for the nails. If you have to remove your nail polish, avoid those nail polish removers that contain acetone. Also avoid having your nails continually exposed to the chemicals in these products by limiting your manicures to twice a month at the most. To avoid those yellow tint that nail polish does on your nails after it has been there for too long, you can apply petroleum jelly over it to regain its natural sheen. You can also soak it in a cup of water and lemon juice.
Eat healthy and supplement with multivitamins.
How you nourish your body also reflects on your nails just as it would show on your skin. So make sure that you eat healthy. Get a healthy amount of protein in your diet such as almonds, fish, chicken, egg whites, and soy and low-fat dairy products. Iron is also an important component to stronger and healthier nails, which you can get in dark leafy vegetables, legumes and meat. Also don’t forget about omega-3 fatty acids which you can get from flaxseeds, salmons and olive oil. Biotin is also a very important nutrient to keep strong nails. You can get it from whole wheat bread, eggs, lover, Swiss Chard, and soybeans.
Cut your nails regularly.
Growing your nails too long can make it more prone to breaking due to the constant mechanical contact that it is exposed to. They are also more prone to collect dirt. So make sure that you regularly trim them at a good length. In order to shape the nails, you have to use emery boards to it right and avoid scissors and clippers. These can cause it to weaken and break.
Buff your nails frequently.
Buffing the nails regularly will promote softer and smoother nails. It also gives it the gloss and shine to make it look healthier. Doing this also stimulates circulation which improves nail growth and strength. But make sure that you don’t overdo it because this extreme in practice can only cause your nails to weaken.
Get your nails done at reputable salons.
If you are fond of getting your nails done, get your manicure or pedicure in good salons. These salons should have people who know how to carefully and properly groom nails. Their materials should also be kept sterile to avoid the transfer of microorganisms from one customer to the other. Mind you, there are salons that do not even rinse their equipment increasing the risk of bacterial infections should minor nicks and cuts become inevitable.
