Ah cool, thought I struck a nerve there haha. I had to listen to my video again cause Zesty is pretty much a blur to me, but yeah the points still stand. A lot of people felt that way for Alisha and while she never really connected with me personally, I can kinda see the attachment by others. Unfortunately Zesty became that Tales game that's a struggle to come back to both gameplay-wise and plotwise for me. At the very least, it looks like Berseria is on the right track.
I mean, I wrote an entire rant about Zestiria, it’s in my rant tag if you want to go see it, but Alisha was easily the most interesting character in the game, because she had so much potential and backstory that wasn’t explored, and then the part of her armatizing (Which really should have been a thing), just was totally destroyed. Which sucks. Her coming to the fact with how Seraph are seen, and getting to the spiritual side of the world was an adventure -- it showed character development, and gave us some conflict (that problem with Sorey in the beginning).
Instead, we’ve given a cardboard cutout of a story with Rose, who doesn’t affect Sorey because of what’s happened to her her entire life, and that’s just... that’s just boring. It’s that type of plot armor that you expect and hope you never see, but you HAVE to, and as much as I love Rose, I hate her for that same reason.
Zesty lost a lot of points for me in that department, but truthfully, I’d be able to overlook it if it wasn’t so ridiculously confusing to play to me. Zestiria’s equipment system just makes me want to pull each of my hairs out one by one, because it’s just so confusing and convoluted to use. It’s not simple, and the fact that they need to use SKITS to explain it to you shows you it’s ridiculous (and even then, it’s STILL confusing). That single handedly made me not want to play it ever again, to be honest (and personally, that sucks, because I want to Platinum it, because I do it with all the Tales Games at this point). But I don’t even want to touch this game again.
I didn’t even play the Alisha DLC (I needed a break before going back into that hell; the final boss of Zesty is the biggest load of bull I’ve EVER seen with it’s cheap ass mechanic to kill you, because it’s not even hard; it’s just cheap and annoying.) before handing it off to my friend in November when I beat it. It’s April. He still hasn’t beat it, because he’s not too thrilled with the game, either.
