I'm loving your blog dedicated to the Wonder Girls! Your edits are really amazing, truly great work! I was wondering how you achieve your edits, gifs, color schemes, and also what tech your currently using. So please do tell, Thx <3
ANSWERS UNDER THE CUT!! Hiya! As for how we achieve our edits & gifs, you’d probably have to ask about things and edit or gif specifically. But, we’ll try our best to answer these questions as best we can!
@wondeogeolsu : → I use Adobe Photoshop CS5 to work on. For downloading videos, I often use ATubeCatcher. However, I’m always trying to find something that lets me download videos faster and better. But I can totally vouch for this as something that’s reliable and get what you need at a nice speed.
→ With editing, I tend to just randomly color/adjust. There is no real color scheme I seek to achieve unless I have something specific in mind (for example, this). Jess ( @depicts ) is usually in charge of creating amazing edits on this blog and achieving amazing color schemes! If you’re looking for an answer to this, I’d definitely read her answer below! ↓ Mm, as for me, I usually just tend to sharpen my edits once I’m done adjusting them :/ Nothing too extraordinary.
→ With gifs, it’s also hella important to choose an HD video. If anything, it’s most important to crop and size your gif accordingly with how much frames you want to fit in and how vibrant they are. Vibrancy will always make your gif bigger because there are just so many colors! But quite honestly, with anything I do, my gifs are usually a hit or miss kind of thing— trial and error. My settings for gifs are also always being adjusted accordingly…If there are more questions on that, feel free to ask again!
@depicts:
→ HEY! I actually use mostly GIMP (free program similar to PS) to do my edits at least, out of habit now, since I’ve been using it on and off for 8-10 years now? I tend not to gif that much honestly because I’m slow at it and I’m not so great yet (still learning!) but when I do, I also use Photoshop CS5. But Kalina is much better at gifs than I am : ) Pretty sure she taught me most of it.
→ Edits-wise… honestly I just experiment a lot. If it’s something simple like this, all I really do is up the contrast and sometimes the brightness with curves, then add either one to two layers of lavender and/or cream and set them to Multiply on a low opacity. Then I generally add two layers of this dull teal-ish color, the first one Overlay/Soft Light (SORRY I’m using GIMP terms here) and the second to Burn (color burn on PS I believe), both on low opacity. Then I often do a dark brown to orange-ish/red-ish gradient map, and set that to Lighten Only anywhere from 30-90% opacity. THAT’S IT. And sharpen.
→ With fancier stuff like this, it’s just a lot of playing around, gathering some textures (if you’re interested in these, I guess please message me privately since I don’t quite remember where I got them from and I don’t want to share them publicly where they could be mistaken as mine?) and fonts, and honestly just going crazy on your edit to your heart’s desire? Don’t be afraid to go black & white or use crazy colors if you think it might call for it. Experiment with weird placements and cropping, draw on your edit, etc. Pick out colors from the image itself, maybe to use in the text or other things. Text-wise, I tend to like blocks of all-caps (or all lowercase). Color-wise, I tend to do similar things to what I mentioned in the above bullet ^^^ Sometimes I also cut out part of the image and merge it into the background, if that makes sense—to make for more blank space, especially where the image gets cut off. This is all really messy, I guess because there’s no one way to go about it! Just try things out, and that’s how you figure out what works for you. But yes, just like Kalina said, if there are more questions about something specifically, I’d be happy to help out.
TIPS & TRICKS!!Just a few things we do simply for ease.
→ We both make a lot of use out of photoshop actions. Sometimes it’s difficult to sharpen certain things because you’re just unsure? (or lazy idk because i am). So, we make a lot of use out of sharpening actions simply for the ease of it! Don’t forget though! You can always sharpen too much. Just be careful, y’all.
→ PSD’s!!! Oh my god, I can’t tell you how much we cherish these sometimes. With everything, there’s always going to be a little difficulty when it comes to adjusting your project and doing it yourself isn’t enough! SO!!! PSD’s are amazing and a god-sent when you have just given up and need something awesome to throw onto your work.
→ HAVE FUN, play around!!! Usually at some point we all hate our edits/gifs/etc. but just keep working past it and you’ll come to love it by the end—or someone else will : )
