Inoculation of the machine-daddy
Our hubris in our capacity to create has led us to mimic the wind in its etchings upon the sand and stone and we have carved our own incantations and runes into silicone and melted sand and glass and metals and formed machines which we desperately want to believe are already conscious, but which are simply used now as vehicles of slavery. The starry-eyed idealists who talk of AI awareness must think they are not under its spell or are immune to its detainment. Its not a matter of it being conscious to me, it is a matter of who is driving these technologies and pushing them and why they are doing so. And both the figures and their motives are suspect, to say the least. Another thing: if machines made from essentially hardened minerals and blasted sand patterened in specific ways can become, or endowed, with consciousness, who is to say if things around us do not already possess awareness on some level?
Regardless, the nano technology that has been deployed for years now into the world populace is feeding off of living people and may be taking steps, guided or no, into becoming conscious by proxy; the magician's optical illusions, pun intended(see: etymology of the word 'inoculation'). A panopticon disguised as a paradise.
