An incoming rant...
Since today we are addressing some issues against the LGBTQ+ community, I'll do some ranting myself.
Straight people are so quick to invalidate mlm or wlw relationships in media that their first instinct is to argue against saying that character A or character B isn't gay. They completely neglect the existence of bisexual/pansexual people and the fact that a they don't have to stop being attracted to the opposite gender in order to be attracted to someone of the same gender. And then when you try to get past that barrier they come with the bullshit that character A or character B has only been with people of the opposite gender, again ignoring the fact that bisexuality isn't 50/50, that you don't have to date a person of the same gender for every person of the opposite gender you date or vice-versa, you can date 20 people of the opposite gender and feel attracted to that one person of the same gender. That doesn't make you less bisexual, that doesn't make you straight. Getting attracted to that one person of the same gender after being mainly attracted to the opposite gender doesn't mean a person is suddenly gay, they are still bisexual, they are still attracted to the opposite gender. Then, if you get past that barrier comes the next bullshitty one. They say: "Oh, but character A and character B of same gender are just friends, you gay people just want to keep pushing your agenda on us, shoving your sexuality down our throats", even though said characters A and B do have a relationship that is more on the romantic side than the platonic side, and you can prove that by getting an equivalent, or replacing one of the characters by someone of the opposite gender in the exact same plot and seeing straight people shipping them and validating them when they wouldn't even consider the same gender relationship a possibility. This kind of thing gets me absolutely furious because they keep thinking they are on the right to say we are pushing things when all we are trying is to get representation and stop erasure, and they think we are on the wrong for wanting to fight for our space in the media when they keep pulling this kind of shit. This is also applicable to celebrities. I have lost count of how many times people try to invalidate their sexuality or say it’s just for show. I’ve seen it happens many times. Just take Kristen Stewart as example.
Anyway, it’s about time straight people accept that we exist. That things aren’t just black and white. That being bisexual/pansexual is not just a step into homosexuality, nor is it a step back into heterosexuality. This is getting fucking ridiculous. We have always existed and will always exist. Get over yourselves, assholes.
