artist spotlight: Paper Statues everyone's all about doing the grunge / indie rock thing as of late it seems for the general music scene a solid portion of this group of people are into, and that's just fine. But there's always going to be a part of me that misses the upbeat fast paced - punching alternative rock that once was. Bands like Anberlin, Search The City, Armor For Sleep, and countless others did that for me, and I'm glad to say with rising, newcomers from the Syracuse, NY region "Paper Statues" are releasing a two song EP that gives me faith for 2006 to not be as lame to be stuck in as it always has been for myself and hopefully others. Most of the band reigns from the melodic hardcore group, "Go Forth." So to see such a change sound wise and have it be so progressively more impressive from their past work blows it out of the water to start with. Eric Berchard on vocals is going to be one of the biggest reasons why your heart can't stop throbbing from the sad but catchy songs that make up this demo / EP. You're going to get a lot of really great guitar work with an even just as well display of pedal work between the two, with really solid and well crafted singing. The band focuses far less on what's going on in the scene and works more from what they personally love doing, and with that I sensed came an even better product then most bands release their debut as. The release is now available on band camp for a $1 minimum donation, be sure to grab both songs and bang your head, but try not to lose too many tears in the process. http://Paperstatues.bandcamp.com
