I think I’ve already mentioned that I had to make a little color diagram based on the number of shades of grey I wanted to use and all the different carapacian black-white-grey bits.

Also, this piece had so many similar shades of pink-purple that needed to work together, that I specifically went to the store to try to color-match for it. And then I panicked and literally just bought every single shade of purple or pink paper the store had.

This was the start of my ridiculous paper collection.  Plus side: at the point, I can basically sit down and papercraft p much whatever I want, just with what I have on hand.

Let’s see.  That one I worked out that robots take a while but they turn out SUPER nice in paper because of all those clean geometrical angles.  (Sort of had the suspicion they would, based on my experience w/ the armored vantas demons.)

I had to look up a lot of references to figure out how all the different robot parts worked together in 3 dimensions.

And I was planning to use a transparency sheet for the window, but when I tried it I decided it was going to be too distracting.  (And it sort of flattened out some of the perceived depth.

The robots got me thinking a bit about the dissonance when highlights cast paper shadows, so for Rewind’s chest-glowy-bits I tried cutting the papers so that they matched up edge to edge rather than layering, to keep them smooth.  I’ve used that a few times since.

This project was also the first time I tried using inks in my papercraft, because there was no freaking way I was going to try cutting out tiny lettering.

Also, I didn’t have archival quality inks at the time, so that bit may need touched up if it fades, sorry in advance. :p

My mom’s patronus is Wonder Woman, so I always think of her when I do something Diana related. :3

I was pretty comfy with the chibis by this point, so the dumbest thing I did was originally forget her pants-stars.

Also, I wanted to do her holding tea, but couldn’t get a pose I liked without a lot more props.  My brother suggested snake, and it seemed logical somewhere in my head (something about ropes, but mostly I just like snakes), so snake it was. :3

Deffffinitely the most mixed-media piece I’ve attempted.

I decided the gradations and shading on the mermaid and her background were important enough that I went in with colored pencils.

I re-did her face and body about 25 times, partly because I kept going back and forth between grey vs white paper base and partly because I kept smudging things.

I touched up the outer faces of the gold cups with gold paint.

And I decided the background still wasn’t working for me, so I went over it with some translucent silver paint to add highlight lines.

I was really iffy on how to manage Gamzee’s facepaint, but I’m pretty satisfied.

I removed Gamzee’s eyes and reattached them about 27 times to get his expression the way I wanted.  Yes, he had his eyeballs plucked off with tweezers repeatedly.

I couldn’t decide whether Kanaya was wearing shoes in the panel, finally decided no, went back and looked at the original later and decided, oops, yes.  Oh, well.

I spent some time experimenting with how to do the glow effect--both around and behind her.  I think this was the first time I used translucent papers in a way I was satisfied with (attaching from behind, rather than in front).
